I agree with all that's been said. These days people seem to over-horse themselves. They must have a horse by "so & so" or one that's got dressage or BE points, just because it sounds better than their friend's horse. I was talking to my farrier about Arabs. He's a fan, but didn't used to be...
My horse is very difficult to bit. I've tried lozenges, mullen mouths, French links, Revolvers, jointed snaffles, curved jointed snaffles, (un)Happy Mouths, etc, etc. I use a Myler MB04 comfort snaffle & he goes very kindly in it. It has minimal tongue pressure & is slightly ported, but not...
Please can you explain to me why an Arab shouldn't be entered in a WH class? It's perfectly possible to plait up an Arab. They jump, have boundless stamina & are tough as old boots. What more could you wish for in a WH? Not all are big enough to carry a big person, but the larger ones (~16hh) will.
I've always had Arabs or Anglo Arabs, 5 altogether. My first, I was 13, was rose grey & he did everything except jump! We were in PC gymkhana teams, did dressage & hunted (he jumped then!). Next was a chesnut roan Anglo with a flaxen mane & tail, I bought him at 2, broke him & he really did do...
People who say - is he an Arab? Then, what are you going to do with him - endurance? Why does everyone assume that Arabs are only good for endurance? And another one. Oh, isn't he good for an Arab. What do they expect, a whirling dervish?
They go out at about 7.30am in the week, about 8.30 -9am at w/ends, no breakfast. They have hay in the field. I muck out & go to work (if it's a weekday). They come in about 6.30pm for feeds and hay. I skip out, water, hay & check rugs about 10pm. They also get cuddles & carrots. My old horse...
Falcon Adler VSD XW - after 12 attempts with all sorts of others! Horse is wide thro' the shoulder, with a big movement & a wide flat back, very little wither. Luckily he isn't particularly short-backed, so there's plenty of room for a saddle. It fits him well, a bit big for me but it's comfy.
I feed my Arab C&C. He has a beautiful coat, is bright eyed & bushy-tailed & seems to be keeping weight on. He has about 2lb/day. Don't think it makes him loopy, he's naturally very bright & forward going, but good to handle in the stable etc.
I'm sure you already know this, but Arabs can be prone to some metabolic disorders, which can trigger laminitis. Unfortunatley I can't remember what they're called (blonde moment!). Have you had him tested for insulin resistance and Cushings? Sounds to me like the laminitis is triggered by some...
I use it on mine too & have had a couple of treatments myself. Don't know/understand how it works, but it seems to help them. Last time one of mine had a treatment he lay down & went to sleep before we'd finished! They love it. My therapist is excellent. If it hadn't been for her I wouldn't have...
Arabs are tough as old boots. Feel the base of her ears. If they feel hot, she is too hot. They should feel pleasantly warm. She might not like feeling hot & feels uncomfortable before she even starts to sweat. My anglo went silly in the stable the other night after I'd put his big rug on...
