Travel boots - yay or nay?

Incidentally, I think we as a nation are about the only ones who use travel boots; they never bother in Europe and America.

    Amy Tryon

Well, my dad loves his golf on Sky, much of which comes from America. They are very vocal, and generally very bad sportsmen... the crowd think nothing of 'boo'-ing a good shot from one the American's oponents, and shouting at inopportune moments to put them off. So, in answer, why don't those...

    A big thankyou to NFU!!

I had my horse insured with them and had no claims in 10 years, then 2 last year. They were brilliant, paid all the vets and hospitals direct. Unfortunatley when my renewal came up they'd doubled my premium so I had to change to Petplan. very frustrating but I would still recommend them and...

Can i sedate my horse to travel long distance

I've given mine Sedalin for long journeys, it was fine and made it safer and more bearable for both of us. He had 3 visits to vets/ hospital last year and was heavily sedated by the vets for each. As soon as he was able to put one foot in front of the other the vets gave him the all clear to...

Nearest & Best Beach to Derbyshire

I'm in Derbyshire and I reckon the nearest would be the Wirral, West Kirby (see my post a few pages ago).

Those of you who loan, or have horses out on loan

I had to loan my horse out when I went away to uni. I wasn't far away so came back and checked her every 2-3 weeks for the few months, then when everything seemed OK I left them to it. Big mistake! Their circumstances changed , they got a new horse which was half wild, they lost their grazing at...

Best way to take a young horse on a long journey...???

I had to take my stressy horse 100+ miles each way to a clinic for a scan last year. OK so we obviously had a few hours there during the day but it was about 5 hours travelling time in the one day. I gave him Sedalin (quite a low dose compared to what my vet told me to give him!) and he snoozed...

    Travelling Help (sorry long post)

My horse has never collapsed but is a very nervous traveller. Def try without the partitions... my horse stands himself on an angle with his back legs splayed to get his balance. Also some trailers are more bouncy than others; Ifors and other ones with leaf springs can be quite bouncy. Batesons...

    Trailer shopping - which make?

I like my Bateson... my horse doesn't travel too well and I went for this as they have independent suspensions so are less bouncy than Ifors which have leaf spring suspensions (think regular car v Land Rover for being a passenger in!). Also have Boston doors, but not sure I'd go that route...

Beach riding on the Wirral, advice please!

Thanks very much for that guys! (love the pics Flic... you've set off my labrador envy again though!) Do we have to avoid both high tide and/ or low tide? I know the sea goes out a long long way further up... went to Ainsdale once and my dreams of galloping along in the surf were scuppered as...

Beach riding on the Wirral, advice please!

Hi, Planning to take my horse to the beach for the first time as soon as weather permits and trying to suss out how/ where. I think the Wirral looks a good bet, as there is the Wirral Way (with Horse box parking)/ Wirral Country Park and beaches you can ride on. Does anyone know this area and...

    Flaky skin HELP!!

Just another thought... my boy used to always be a bit flaky (not as bad as yours) and it got worse in winter. He can also be very sharp/ spooky so I picked up on something about feed intolerances causing both of these symptoms. I cut barley out of his feed (changed to the Allen & Page ones)...

    Driver friendly hip-flask recipes please!

Well in the end I put about 1oz of whisky in with the rest Rochester ginger wine (non alcoholic but got a good gingery kick). It tasted good, was warming and no-one suspected it wasn't very alcoholic :-) ... I did have a couple ports along the way as well but yes, hopefully the adrenalin helps...

Bloodhounds & draghounds - the difference?

I think it depends on the hunt and the people in it rather than than hounds wether or not you get left behind! I hunt with a bloodhounds pack, we always have a second field master who takes non -jumpers so you can jump what you want to. I think technically bloodhounds are supposed to be more...
