    Anatomical girth recommendations

Have had the prolite dressage girth for a couple of years and really like it, and sensitive mare goes very well in it, same design as the Fairfax, but easy care just wipe off of run under the tap if really dirty after each ride- and love that has a loop at the bottom if a martingale is required

Buying a trailer but too much choice! WWYD?

Have 18mth old 511 and big mare who amply fills a 7ft rug has plenty of room, and use the “middle” rear slot for the back bar. She travels very very well in it. Can’t comment on how it compares to the other types mentioned, and not sure how the HBX compares to the standard HB.

    Rhino Rugs

Love mine have two of the wug versions for my retired 7/8th TB boy in medium and heavy weight and he lives out full time. Completely waterproof, and he’s in a herd and no repairs required so far and heavyweight is starting it’s 3rd winter. Always warm even when out in last yrs snow with no...

    Eqclusive Brushes

After picking up a couple locally to give them a go, I got the rest of the "chestnut" set. I got mine from EquiZone and ones I tend to go to generally are the Diamond gloss and the new generation curry comb - mare "presents" and shifts around (particularly now she's shedding) to ensure I give...

    Cute things non-horsey people say....

When out hacking my approx 16.3 mare, who was only 4yr old mare, past a local hostel (single lane road) with loads of people just arriving, and had asked a mother and child with various bags/pillows etc to stay still while I took her past as she was just a "baby". Child pipes up - wow - how big...

    Horseback Safari

Been to "Wait a Little" in South Africa. Very "sporty" so not for the beginner/nervous rider/unfit rider as lots of long canters, jumping of small logs and weaving through the bush on beautifully trained horses and Gerti and Philip are wonderful hosts. Saw the Big 5 on horse back, as well as...

    Livery costs Dublin/Louth/Meath

I pay €520 pm full livery in North Wicklow, which would be similar to South Dublin prices. Very dependent on facilities (ie arena(s), indoor (which we don't have), amount/quality of turnout). Know of some places that are €600+ pm. Sorry, can't help with Louth/Meath, but I believe...

    Rugs that use liners?

Got a Rambo Duo in a sale in the summer when mare went up a size in rug. Love that can easily change different weights of liners as the winter's progressed, and had a couple of the Amigo Mio stable rugs that I can swap in when I want to wash the proper Duo liners. Duo is 100gm outer, so will...

    Keeping shoes on

Found Woof Wear Kevlar overreach boots very good for my very exuberant old boy. They're deep so cover heels well, and found the velcro very good and never came undone even in very wet / muddy conditions, but you could also tape if you felt it was needed. I hope you find the right option and...

Best weight gain feeds for a veteran

I found last winter that my old boy, who didn't cope as well as I liked his first winter living out (retired 16.3 7/8th TB), did really well on a 10% cool cooked cube mix + 1/2 a scoop of steam cooked flaked barley plus sugar beet/linseed oil (plus ad-lib haylage). Barley is an old fashioned...

    Bitting suggestions :)

Have you considered trialing with one of the bit banks, at least you would then know if they're suitable before trying to source a second hand version? I know there is a cost to that, but worth considering if you're unsure, and they have helplines as well, which may be of use??

Need help finding super quiet clippers!

Not sure if you found anything, but there are http://www.peasridge.co.uk/acatalog/AESCULAP--FAV5--GT105-230v-professional-A5-detachable-blade-clipper-C0103.html#SID=239, I've had mine about 5 years now & do 3-4 clips a year. I needed to find something that was low vibration for my old boy who...
