Well, someone always knows where I am and what time I'm due back but I'm glad it's just his paranoia :) I actually rather like having the yard to myself.
My OH thinks it's completely bonkers that I ride/school with no one else around. At the time that I ride (mornings) there is seldom anyone at the yard, although my YO is usually kicking about somewhere and he thinks it's reckless.
I honestly hadn't really thought about it but it's not...
Rubbish. People are forever going on about how necessary it is for a horse to respect one's personal space.... WTF don't people extend the same courtesy to the horse?
Horses are HORSES. They react like HORSES when they feel threatened. Some are more sensitive than others. If someone I didn't...
This. I love TBs, but added to the comments above I fear a lot people assume they will be a handful to ride, which will put off more novicey/inexperienced people and the more experienced rider will be more inclined to get one out of training and put the work in themselves.
That's what I would do.
Your main problem appears to be that you stand in your stirrups and go right up his neck which will make it much harder for him to bring his front end up. This also makes your lower leg rather wobbly and insecure. At that height you don't need a big bouncy canter (although it wouldn't hurt ;) )...
I've got one of those. I don't think it IS accurate on my horse, but perhaps it depends on conformation; deep chested horses will appear to weigh more than slighter builds?
ETS: the Dodson and Horrell tape
I only use the weightape to see if there are any changes. I'm sure it's weighing WAY under true weight. My 4yo is chunky 14.3 and it says he's under 400kg!
