That is certainly forward planning! I have a TB mare by Silver Patriarch in foal to our young stallion Athens Mumbo Jumbo ( Hannoverian x TB)- due June 2010. The foal that she had by him this year was reserve cham eventer at the BEF and hunter foal at Equi Fest. Here is a link to the photos...
We had a colt born 19 days early this year and both his front legs were a bit off centre! He has had remedial plastic extensions fitted and restricted exercise now for three weeks and the difference is amazing. Definately worth a try. Good luck.
Pleased it helped - from my knowledge of colour genetics you need to have a double dilute gene to avoid the solid (bay) aspect. With the palomino there is one dilute gene whereas with cremello/perlino there are two. Good luck.
We have all our mare/foal paddocks fenced with the tornado horse netting and have found it very good. Foals cant climb through it and I dont have to worry about rails breaking! We run a single strand of electric fencing over the top. Hope that helps.
I tend to use equimax for my mummies to be - you have to be careful as some wormers are not licensed for pregnant or lactating mares. Equimax is fine and foals can also be wormed from 2 weeks old with it.
Hope that helps and good luck.
We had a super PP colt who is now rising 3 - remains an entire and is destined to go eventing. He was the nicest foal, very easy to do and co-operative. He was out of a Silver patriarch mare so full TB.
It comes down to both sire and dam at the end of the day!
Re TheFuture in response to the above post I can confirm that Crown's Wonder Pearl scored an average of 8 at his grading and as a 4yr old now he has been competing at unaffiliated dressage and schooling over intro BE courses.
Pleased can you confirm which stallion you are refering to? Many Thanks.
BayJosie - I know I was amazed - the mare has had two coloured foals previously, one by a black stallion and that was coloured and the other by Sambertino, coloured too. Super filly but a bit of a shock! Guess she got both the bay/black genes!
It is great to see from the posts above that our young stallion-Crown's Wonder Pearl- has created a little interest. Indeed the Brackenspa Stud Open Day is on this Saturday and we will be happy to see you.
We are very excited to have his first foal on the ground - a strapping palamino filly...
Many thanks - I notice you have a Tornado baby due - really interested to see how he/she turns out - he is another Darco boy that I checked out. Fingers crossed for beginning of April):
Great news to see that peolpe are still thinking of the legend 'Darco'. Thanks for bringing another of the boys to attention - I have looked at Magic Darco for the past two seasons but not had huge success in finding much stock to look at. Any info greatly recieved. I know that Unbelievable...
