    Question about Exmoor ponies

I have had a number of exmoor pines over the years and they have all been very different. The reputation i would say is due to the fact that many of them start their lives as wild ponies and may spend many months or years unhandled. Saying that, my mare was on the moor wild until she was 4 and...

Help Advice Bringing in Spooky Ponies

if you buy a new one you get a dvd on how to use and training to use it. They have an extra rope across the nose, with a ring at each end, so your lead rope is attached to a ring at the side - this rope is sliding so if you pull the lead rope it tightens across the nose - and releases...

If your horse is nervous in a situation?

I know exactly how you feel and try to keep my boy going along in a nice outline, bend him round my leg (away from the scary thing) and flex head inthe same direction. I do tend to say 'come on, don't be ridiculous, its only a man on a bike, you've seen a bike before, and it didn;t kill you...

Help Advice Bringing in Spooky Ponies

Meant to add - I was also last down at the yard bringing two in in the dark with no other option. I thikn the Duallys are differnt colour for different sizes - i have a black one which is fine for my chunky welsh 13.2.

Help Advice Bringing in Spooky Ponies

Definately invest in a dually. This worked wonders with my idiotic welsh. I have to say (and will probably get shot down for this) I didn;t do hours of training with it, Ipopped it on and when he started misbehaving, gave a little pull. It worked.

    Trashed winter field - reseeding?

My winter turnout is absolutely trashed. It managedok last year mostly due to the snow and frozen ground I think, but this year I have an extra pony and it has been wet and its just awful. Problam also was that last year it managed really well and they ended up staying on it most of the summer...

Should a horse of 15 be classed as veteran?

15 does seem very young these days, and I think this is classed as 'pre veteran' by the VHS?

    Big decision to make!

Its is really hard, especially if you ar ehappy where you are. I have moved twice for practicle reasons over the years, and have cried both times I have told the YO!! I would make sure things are fine at the new place, then speak to the YO and tell them of your intentions, and give them...

Is she too old? Please put my mind at rest!

My boy is 31 now, and I got him when he was 18. He was a high goal polo pony so had a hard working life, and I brought him home in a terrible state from a horse sale. However, he came round quickly, and was my main riding horse for 10 years. He was fit as a fiddle in his late teens and early...

Walk/trot tests. When to move on

Yes also much less spooky when jumping, and the cantering doesn't bother me either! Although i do have to trot toward the first one :o But when jumping, he either flies round happily or if he doesn't like a jump, will tell me from about 6 strides away so no real sudden moves! I am keen to...

Walk/trot tests. When to move on

You are quite right, the more he does the better he will get, thats what I plan anyway! Don't get me wrong, I don't want to do this forever, but he hasn't been out for a couple of years, I no longer have a school so struggle in the winter, but really want to start doing stuff again. I do...

Walk/trot tests. When to move on

Oh it must be welsh that are black with a white star and three little socks.........mine is just like that but smaller. (also with a drop noseband!) I usually get comments such as 'sensitively ridden' and 'could be more relaxed' but have also had a drawing of a circle to demonstrate the shape I...
