FAO people that own thoroughbreds

My TB wears premier equine rugs that fit him well, I like these as you can use liners to make them thicker/thinner as needs be. He lives out all year round. He's on a very low sugar/starch diet and has lib haylage. He has been barefoot for 3 years & I have done x country, show jumping, dressage...

Hind gut acidosis/ulcers or something else?

If I drop the copra he loses weight - it has taken me nearly 2 years to get him to a half decent weight after he had kissing spines and was operated on. At that time he looked like a hat rack and had no muscle or topline. When I said he was chunky I meant that he was a big rangy national hunt...

Hind gut acidosis or something else?

I was just wondering whether my boy has HGA/ulcers and would appreciate your thoughts, or whether you think it might be something else? He is a chunky TB, barefoot, lives out 24/7 in the same field he has been in for the past year, has ad lib hay on top of his grazing (not eating much hay at...

    What bridle/bit for showing?

This is him at the last show I took him to 18months ago And this is him in his Micklem - what do you think - does it make his head look too plain? Would you use a coloured brow band for the riding club horse class? I wouldn't use it for the working hunter, but would for...

    What bridle/bit for showing?

I am taking my TB to a local riding club show on Monday and am planning to do the following classes; riding club horse, ridden novice and possibly novice working hunter. I normally ride him in a Micklem bridle and hanging cheek snaffle which he goes really well in. I plan to do the working...

    Ear plugs - Any recommendations?

I use ear plugs on my TB and find that they help quite a bit, particularly out hacking, but also for schooling as it helps him concentrate. I don't use ones specifically for horses, I use sponge cat balls - they are exactly the same as Pom ear plugs but are £1.75 for four instead of £10 for two...

    Am I Mad?

Mines a TB and he's been barefoot for 2 years now. I've done competitive endurance rides, XC, show jumping & dressage on him all barefoot. Diet and movement are the key ingredients to successful barefoot transitioning.

    TB Feeding - Cheaper alternative

Thank you - what benefit do you get from soaking the oats ? (we used to scald them to take some of the sting out - though I am not sure it actually made a difference)

    Separation anxiety at competitions

It's a difficult one isn't it? My boy is better when he can see other horses but this weekend he couldn't see any. It doesn't make any difference whether he travels on his own or with others but is probably slightly worse when travelling with others, but as my friend and I share a horsebox and...

    TB Feeding - Cheaper alternative

How do you soak your oats? Years ago I used to scald them with boiling water but it's not practical to do that at the moment as I have to make up feeds in advance for my YO to feed when I'm not there.
