    Purchasing post vetting

We’ve purchased a new horse in the last few days. Vetted her on Thursday, paid in full that evening (we’d already paid a deposit), insured as soon as we sent payment as assumed she was technically ours, and arranged transport for Sunday. Seller was happy with this and just asked for payment...

    Pre-purchase vetting - RVC

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. We managed to get a vetting with Jason as he was in the area on the day we wanted. He was great, very thorough, horse passed and we picked her up yesterday. We’d had a bit of a delay due to waiting for the passport but then it suddenly all fell into place!

    Pre-purchase vetting - RVC

Thank you, I wondered that, about training (and have no issue with it if that is the case). The price includes 5 stage exam, call out, taking of bloods and storage (for 6 months). Running bloods would be extra, as would x-rays, which would be the same with any vet. As we've gone waaaaaay over...

    Pre-purchase vetting - RVC

We are looking to buy a horse in Buckinghamshire and have received a very competitive quote for a 5 stage vetting from RVC. Just wondered if anyone had any experience of using them for vettings? And any idea why their prices might be approx 30% lower than other vets in the area? It would be...

    Kicking out in canter

We use Equishure for hind gut and we adjust dosage according to her needs. We also find Protexin Quick Fix is beneficial at times of stress. Additionally she has milk thistle as this supports digestive system and hormones. She’s fed low sugar/ low starch feed (chaff, nuts and balancer when...

    Kicking out in canter

He was able to manipulate it (under sedation) and since then we’ve managed her on high doses of mare supplements. She’s always been quite mareish but her hormones do seem to have settled a bit as she got older. It was an option (if she didn’t improve) to our her on regumate but fortunately we...

    Kicking out in canter

hi, yes we did eventually but it’s taken a few years! Long story short, vet investigation found arthritis in her facet joints T16-18 and sprain to supraspinous ligament. However we felt these were the result of something underlying that hadn’t been diagnosed rather than the cause of her issues...

Unrideable but cant find the problem! (Long message)

In your circumstances I’d favour an appointment with Tom Beech over Rob Jackson. Having used both, Rob focuses on the back only whereas Tom looks at the whole horse and is more likely to find the root of the problem. long story short, my daughters mare (aged 6 at the time) was kicking out in...

Sense check please on a mild lameness plan?

I can only speak from my own experience but (over a long period) we had several highly recommended vets, chiros, chirovets, physios who all spent time watching the horse move and none were able to get to the root cause. Tom Beech was our final resort, I asked him for his honest opinion on...

WWYD (vet treatment options) - horse with hock/back issues

I would also recommend an opinion from Tom Beech. To try and cut a very long story short, my daughters mare was diagnosed with facet joint arthritis in her thoracic/lumber area and supraspinous ligament strain at the age of 6, following a bone scan as nothing conclusive had come up on other...

    Dental caries and fillings

Thank you, I came across that article too in a search which added to my concern about going ahead with the fillings. It's hard with internet articles to know who to believe, but I found it strange that the vet said caries are common in horses and yet at our yard nobody had every come across a...

    Advice please on 3.5T Horseboxes

I think the Fiat Ducato is a scam. Turns out it's currently being 'looked after' at the other end of the country to where it's advertised, on behalf of a seller who is living abroad. But conveniently they can deliver it to me ...

    Advice please on 3.5T Horseboxes

No, not looking at long distances or steep hills. Thank you, I'll put that one on the possibles pile and see if we can take a look.

    Advice please on 3.5T Horseboxes

Thank you, that's really helpful. I will give the Mercedes a wide berth then! The Fiat is a 2.3 engine so possibly going to struggle? From the pics it looks like a really nice box box, and newer/less mileage than I'd get on a Renault or Vauxhall, so I knew there'd be a compromise!

    Dental caries and fillings

This was the vet, he's the dental specialist at the practice. I was thinking of getting a second opinion from another independent specialist though.
