Is it soft and does it move when you push it? Could be swollen gland? Are there any lumps round his cheek line or the base of his ears? Possibly an allergy?
Thanks very much for that. I think I'm going to start with the two suggested and see where we go from there! He doesn't seem to be that itchy, although, that being said he has cut himself under his chin where one of the lumps is so could have been "hoofing" it if you know what I mean.

My horse recently broke out in lumps all over his neck and throat (def not strangles, blood tests show no infection etc.) My vet thinks it's an allergy and has prescibed piriton which is keeping things on an even keel rather than getting rid of the lumpy bits. The lumps get worse when it's humid...
Inherited 18 year old thoroughbred this winter and was concerned about his weight, used alfabeet, dengie and bailey's no 4 topline cubes and the difference was amazing. He's got lots of lovely grass at the mo but still has topline everyday and he's not looking too bad for an old boy.
