I found Malaseb made my boy dryer and itchier.
I got recommended another (name escapes me) from the vet that doesnt dry out as much but still use my Ruggles shampoo and it doesnt dry it the same.
I know you are trying to dry up the skin so pointless post :o
I was so in love with Wily Trout as a child.
Off topic but does anyone remember a horse series (I think) that featured Wily Trout and also the dressage rider Reimer Klimke and showed a beautiful piece of dressage to classical music.
I'm still none the bloomin wiser, thought it was the dreaded Scottish midges but it can flare up in winter too.
Going to try the tests and hope something conclusive comes back.
Good luck with him.
What tests did they do to find all that out.
Mac only started this when we moved house. It will be 2 1/2 years. Seems to die down in winter but tried him indoors one year on paper bedding and shavings and he was as bad skin wise. I wondered about dust/wood/mites.
Only seems to be his chest...
Did you get any tests done?
I spoke to our new vet the other day and she could do bloods etc and quoted £180 so going to juggle finances and try and get it done.
Another vet (changed practice) asked if he was insured and when I said no he said it would cost too much.
I hate using chems but have started him on Advocate monthly so will see if it flares up but he's scratching all the time.
I fine Piriton (chlorphenamine) seems to ease it a bit too.
Got a lab with this too. Just as you think its seasonal it flares up again.
Possibly food but flares up even on the special diet.
I've had great success with this http://www.karenruggles.co.uk/
Also find pilchards once a day is beneficial.
Stay in the bag and shake that out outside.
As OP posted best to curry off the worst of the hair but I use it for blankets, rugs and dog vet beds to great success.
Any hair left on rug soon blows away.
Get a washing bag from Robinsons.
FAB and no tell tale hairs in the machine.
I'm lucky enough to have an old machine in the garage for horsey and doggy stuff but the bag means the filter doesnt get blocked up every wash!
