In the same boat as you except I will be starting college in September, about to do my leaving cert (Ireland)
Definitely start putting feelers out there for someone who might like to loan her, even if it's only for your first year while you get settled in. Just make sure to see them riding her...
I don't think so, I'm 17 & sometimes work at a yard doing pretty much anything inc. riding/mucking out (we don't poo pick...Ireland) and get cash in hand. I've a horse on the yard and over summer I worked to pay off the livery.
If they're only poo picking I guess it depends on the size of the...
Had a really amazing schooling session last night with my 5yo- Just put poles on the ground for the hell of it and ended up actually managing lead changes both directions! Chuffed doesn't cover it!
Exact same story with me.
Had a beautiful 4yo for a week on our yard which I had tried ridden 3/4 times perfectly, he was beautifully schooled and everything. Failed vetting for minor problems and was offered him for a lower price.
Sent him back even though I did love him... ended up buying...
Seriously proud of the baby 4yo I bought in August for being so easy to break (thank god) and just so amazingly clever. I've never been on a horse than has just picked things up so quickly!
Bought her unbroken and she's already been to a show and gotten 65% in into, and jumped 80cm under...
Okay so my horse rubbed her tail in the trailer (had a freak out, she's not too small-it's a 510 she's 16.1) not too badly, but enough for it to be flaking now about a month later.. :(
Just wondering if anyone uses anything in particular to help regrowth? Previously used cooking oil not sure...
Everyone always has the opinion that the younger generation is lazy and isn't willing to work for anything.
"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise."- Socrates
If a horse isn't working...
Mine was the same at the beginning but we never used anything like whips on the ground, just had a lead for her to follow until she understood the aids for going forward and stopping :)
Also being in the school and constantly turning is quite hard on them, she might just be getting tired?
Definitely have felt a bit rubbish about my riding in lessons sometimes, but if she learned something I'd be chuffed!
Just home after my lesson and my babby just learned to jump so there was a run out which I should have prevented, but her getting over it afterwards trumps that kinda poopy...
I got one of these about 2 years ago and mines also great! I had two seriously fluffy beasts, an ISH and a little cob but did both perfectly 2/3 times a year, just about to break it out again for the new horse :)
Threads like this make me smile!
My baby horse managed circles in canter today which she hadn't before, and she was at her first show this weekend and behaved impeccably! She's been just amazing!
I bought a 4yo unbroken in August and she went and did an intro test (65%) on sunday! Every horse is so totally different but I had 0 expectations for her to be so easy when I got her! I definitely understand the feeling of defeat when something goes wrong, but persevere and he'll turn out in...
