agree with a ported bit - my horse as a really fat, sensitive tongue and saggy pallette. He has a ported happy tongue bit - they come in gags which are stronger than snaffles and many have a leverage action to encourage a softer outline. I found horses with fat tongues hate nutcracker mouth...
Have you tried asking him to canter on a lunge - I did this with my horse who consistently got the wrong leg on the left rein and I was shocked to find that he had the right leg every time. I could only put it down to my position so I altered my position and he goes on the right leg! He is also...
I have a pelham it doesn't have little semi-circle rings on it where your supposed to attach lip straps - i don't even know if you are supposed to put it on this particular bit or if I'm being incredibly stupid and missing something blatantly obvious . But i really can't find anywhere to attach...
I'm not planning on using one myself - I'm just curious as to why horses at elementry level and above which are better schooled and would work in a proper outline with proper head carriage , than lower level would need a weymouth and if I was missing something and there were bits for lower level...
Do they even exist? I'm just wondering if there are any other dressage bits other than the weymouth ,which can only be used from elementry upwards ,that have a leverage action and are dressage legal. Sorry , if I'm wrong by calling them leverage action bits :(
Thanks :)
my friend has a very young horse that which is excited jumping - she rides her in a waterford baucher , it stops the horse from taking hold of the bit and running with it, as it collapses in their mouth if they try. Some horses like them and some don't - it's a case of just trying it and seeing...
Hi , yes I hate the roundings and use two sets of reins - I have tried him in various gags but seemed to really hate then , I don't know if they've got a different action to other bit or something? :)
I ride in a pelham daily - my horse goes really well in it and it doesn't seemed to have chaffed the bars of his mouth like his old snaffle. It does concern me when I'm getting people telling not to use one and getting disgusted looks on the yard :( But , he does seem to go well in it?! Is it ok...
Hi I'm eager to find out more about the baucher - my friend has one with a waterford mouthpiece. Do you think a watterford would be appropriate? Thanks , sorry about all the ?'s
Unfortunately it's not really an option for him not to be ridden in a pelham for everyday - he is very strong and because I have had to have been quite strong to get him to stop as he does not yet respond to half halt , which has chaffed his mouth. With a pelham I can use / have much lighter...
