    RSPCA being investigated

Some years ago the RSPCA was 'governed' by a committee of retired business people, ex army officers and the likes. Members were just the general public wanting to help neglected and cruelty cases, much as they do now, As with most committees after a certain period of serving members have to...

how much will a three year old grow?

I would t think much of a dentist if they cannot tell if a horse is two and a half or three and a half! At 2 1/2 the central permanent teeth are through, the laterals are through at 3 1/2 and the corners at 4 1/2 in full wear at 5.

    Oops we broke the law!

I have retired from horse work and now living in town. I have three dogs, a GSD, Lab and E. Pointer. My sister has a Springer and a Border Terrier (ex hunt) I was asleep but had left the door open as it was warm. I was awoken to here my GSD yip and race out, followed by the other dogs. I just...

Those of you using frontline for mites

Try using pure Neem Oil. Work it well into the feathers and just leave it on. It will get rid of the mites and stop the mud sticking so much. Only downside is that Neem stinks.

could i sell this horse without being sued

What is dangerous to some is quirky to another. Be honest and sell the horse, make sure that the person you sell him to is more experienced than you are. Any horse can be corrected with firm, fair handling. You say he barges out of the stable. Have you tried fixing a strong chain across the...

Confused - left or right hand ramps?

I agree with the above answer but, if you are going hunting a lot and have to park on the road it is easier to have a ramp on the right.

    dismounting

It is the military way of dismounting to keep one foot in the stirrup. Perfectly safe as long as you kick the foot in the stirrup free when the other os level with it. I dismount this way and have down for years, even before my knees lost their give! The reason I started was because riding a...

Should you use a horses current vet for a vetting?

I have used a Vendors vet and, when selling a horse had a buyer use mine. The advantage is that they know any history of the horse. If I am purchasing a horse and it is a distance from my vet I will find the local Hunt, PC or Riding Club, call the secretary and ask what are the best equine vets...

    please help

Sorry cannot - might seem mean but the D on the right is on the wrong way round, you have the flap of the saddle on the left caught under your knee, the noseband is crooked and the forelock under the browband. The spare links of the curb should be hooked up. To many things wrong for me to like...

Wolf teeth remove or not to remove?

Wolf teeth are the only equine teeth that contain nerves through the length so this is why they give problems with a bit (a lot of the time) I have them extracted.

    Stupid idiot children!!

Long gone are the days when any adult had the right to reprimand any child - big or small! I can terrorise most kids and not by shouting at them but by talking very quietly and telling them exactly what I will do to them if they do not desist. Of course, you get either abuse back or threats of...

Good add - notice their length of stirrups and jump saddles? LOL

    Anyone use lime under bedding

Most of the powders you can buy to freshen the stables - and are expensive, consist of at least 90% of lime. I have used it for years and sometimes the horses will lick at the bucket I put it in! Perfectly safe and a heck of a lot cheaper and just as effective.

    Violently kicking out whilst eating.

Contrary to what has been said I would suspect this horse is way down in the pecking order. An alpha has no need to defend its food the others know it is boss and would not attempt to take it. I have had a few horses like this and they were not alpha's. Line his kicking sides with some cheap...
