Thank you everyone for bothering to post - all advice and info gratefully received :) I am female, not quite yet a veteran, with a young NF pony that would be eligible for the Novice race, I believe. I want to compete rather than win, and would be happy enough just to tag along behind a few...
Would love to have a crack at this but I don't know the Forest at all and am worried that the starting point will be difficult to locate for someone like me who isn't a local (apparently it is kept secret until the day before the race). Has anyone competed at these races who would like to share...
My experiences with my pacer mare are: she was very soft in the mouth and putting a straight bar rubber snaffle encouraged her to take a contact (not leaning, just allowing the rider a good feel that she was there at the end of the reins. Once she would take a contact, loads of halt to trot...
Have been looking for a decent hacking jacket for ages - one that fits and (hopefully) flatters my...shall we say...mature figure, and have found one in a local tack shop that could have been made for me. Superb condition, excellent fit, perfect colour and an English-made quality and feel to it...

A friend called in yesterday and showed me images she had had taken by an equine thermographer on her intermittently lame mare, which has been xrayed but not scanned. Apparently when she showed the results to her vet, she was rather dismissive of the procedure and didn't study the results in...
Thank you everyone for your regards, and although I am (obviously!) missing riding, nothing is as good as being at home away from the orthopaedic ward, which was just such a soul-destroying experience, due to seeing the elderly confused ladies trying to cope with similar injuries. Full respect...
Thank you for your kind message Yas. Wish I could say that it happened as I was jumping some huge cross-country fence but nothing so dramatic...just a green horse being cheeky as we were warming up for a dressage test!
Anyone else out there suffered the triple whammy of broken hip, vertebrae (lower back) and pelvis in one fall (I never do things by halves!) and how long before they got back in the saddle? I didn't have to have any ops, thankfully, and as I already had pins in the hip from a previous break...
