Very sorry to hear your news, you are doing the hardest and the most difficult thing anyone can do for their beloved dog but it is the right thing. The trip to and from the Vets is so hard. I wonder, would your vet come out and send her to her rest in the comfort of her home and bed?
Our Vet always checks the chip against our records. I wonder if it didn't and we didn't have an acceptable explanation whether they would check the lost dogs register or missing dogs lists and if they found it was a 'stolen' 'lost' dog, whether they would hold it?
I have seen this doing the rounds on facebook for a number of years now just adapted in different forms, wording slightly different dependent on 'breed type' and if the poster is in the US or the UK. The principle applies tho' too many people take animals on without understanding the commitment...
