I tried backing my gelding after a couple of years of not riding, been lunging him constantly and has been absolutely great. When I tried to back him though, and he was fine when he was just standing there but when he was asked to walk on he just span around and tried to get me off.
Is there...
I'm guessing it would come under here? Anyway, my friends pony, when he walks his front legs sort of crosses over, but only in walk. She wants to do a couple of shows, but not sure whether it would be a problem in the showring? Any answers are welcome:)
I have a 7 year old pony, he was rescued... He's really nervous and I need a bit of help on what I can do with him because I want to back him and do more stuff with him. I've made him walk over sheets on the floor, rubbed him with bin bags and let him sniff around a umbrella. I groom him...
My first pony was 16 and he was sold because he was too small for the women who owned him. And my second was 6 and was actually given to me because he was nervous and I uses to work with him before I got given him:)
What I found that helped me was taking your stirrups away and cantering without them and pushing all you weight through your leg as though it was in the stirrup. It also improves on your balance and will sit comfy in the saddle after it:)
Thankyou, loads of advice and helped a load! I've never tried vaulting on a horse before, should I learn on a experienced pony thats done mounted games or would I best to practice on a calmer pony?
I'm guessing this comes under competition? Anyway, I really want to start up mounted games, but I don't know the first thing about starting up. How do I? I'm 14 too, am I too old to start it? Any help is welcome. Thankyou
My horse have done this a few times, chasing me out the field and that. I asked my instructer and she said that it's because of the weather as it's always seems to be roughly this time of year.
