    Pony losing weight, please help

Thank you for your help! She was this thin early nov, which is why I mentioned the start of winter, although I do think that we still have a few months to go and so far it's been very mild here (I believe today was our first temp that dipped below zero!) Her feed has been upped since then, but...

    Pony losing weight, please help

My pony is just over 14hh, medium cob. I've had her a year and as she entered the colder months I noticed that she has already slimmed down a lot. Her winter coat is coming through, but I can already see her ribs slightly. She has ad lib haylege day and night, is in during the day and out...

    The dreaded ringworm! Help!

My 18 yr old cob has had trouble losing her winter coat, and was sweating terribly every day, so on Saturday last week she was fully clipped. On Tuesday she had a yellow crusted area on her rump about the size of a 10p that wasn't there on Sunday. She also had a smaller crusted area nearby...

1st ever show. In need of HELP!!

Having had my first horse for 3 months, we are entering our first show next week. My daughter will ride her in best lead rein with me leading. Pony is 18 yrs and 14hh. As far as I know she has never been to a show before, and neither have I (I'm 36). She is a cob, passport says skewbald but...

How often do you pick out your horse's hooves?

My pony is barefoot. In the last 2 months she has never had much to pick out until today and I made sure each hoof was completely clean. She's happy with the pick, but gets pretty cross if I use a brush.

How often do you pick out your horse's hooves?

Leviathan - can I ask you why you don't pick them out?

How often do you pick out your horse's hooves?

I always thought you should pick out horses hooves before and after riding as a minimum. Someone who I have an awful lot of respect for, and would usually not question in terms of horse know-how, has told me today not to pick small stones out of my pony's hooves, as the more I clear them out...

    RSPCA. Knocking on doors.

Well I can assure you that I raised money in town centres for Save the Children and I was paid a wage to do it and was never employed by the charity themselves. :-) We were based in Brighton and I did it in Brighton, Croydon and Chichester - we used to all go up on the train!

    Cleaning textured leather boots

Thanks noblesteed - i''ve been doing a bit more research about cleaning leather (yes I do mean nubuck) and it seems that the reason you shouldn't use products is because you'll flatten the nap of the leather and it will end up flat like normal leather. My boots are pretty knackered in terms of...

    RSPCA. Knocking on doors.

Just to say that the people that knocked on the door probably weren't from the RSPCA. Charities usually use a company to do this kind of find raising for them - I used to work for one of them :-( I never did the knocking on doors part, but I used to sit in a call centre and make phone calls to...

    Scared to canter!

I love cantering, but it still terrifies me at times! I've found that cantering on a hack my seat is far better than when I am in the school, but even 2 canters in the school up the long side and my legs will be like jelly! I would definitely say get an instructor who understands that you...

Vetting - what does it cost

I had my loan horse vetted yesterday and it cost about £126 plus call out (which was split because there were other people needing the vet to look at their horses too). That was for a 2 stage vetting.

    Cleaning textured leather boots

I've been a bit silly. I was given some beautiful leather boots for Christmas which I love riding in, but i'm often pushed for time, so I ride, then brush, rug and turn out my pony and am ankle deep in mud as we enter her field. I always rinse the boots within a few minutes, but after a few...

Picking up my first horse on Sunday! Any tips?

Thank you so much everyone - she does seem rather lovely, although is behaving better for everyone else on the yard than she is for me! I think I need to be a bit more confident around her on the ground. Am going up to see her tomorrow afternoon and think it will be too windy to ride, so will...

Picking up my first horse on Sunday! Any tips?

She is called Miranda. And no, the excitement is still there! I spend all day at work trying to work out how to get away earlier to see her, or thinking about the next time I am going up to the yard. Getting really grumpy every time someone asks me to put some extra hours in lol! (although...
