    Anatomical girths

So I have been advised to find an anatomical girth for my mare. She has a horrible flat back, hardly any wither, an enormous shoulder and a forward girth groove. Despite numerous saddles, numnahs and pads we always get a little bit of saddle creep forwards. I'm just not sure what shape would be...

Lame steps showing up in lateral work?

Just wondered if she is the same if you put her in a long and low frame and perform some lateral movements. I had a bridle lame horse, his previous owner rode him very up and short in the neck and the unlevel steps appeared when I tried riding him in a different frame. For a long time he needed...

Training/backing - one person, no helper.

I have one like this. She isnt spooky at all and really works with me until there is another person around. Even if they are stood watching she is on full alert. I have done everything alone as a result and she is coming on really well. Im hoping her trust will come as her confidence grows.

Mare problems or fundamental issue? - long sorry!

I have one that has similar issues, same breeding/sex but because she is perfect on the lunge and when being long reined; obedient, forward, calm and willing and over the back it gives me the reassurance that physically things are all well. Yours sounds like she struggles more with the...

Suggestions for horse who sets through the neck??

Great advice Be P, along the lines of what I think we need to try next. The work has been pretty frantic but is starting to settle. Its great to have the forwardness and its always from behind but it does all become like a tug-of-war at times which is not pleasant. Hes great in draw reins but I...

Suggestions for horse who sets through the neck??

Thanks for your reply. Essentially its the latter, he is 6 and is stuggling to balance the paces. Once the neck is soft he is amazing but I cant unlock it very often and then more by luck than judgement and only for seconds. The walk is so much better.

Suggestions for horse who sets through the neck??

I have a super gelding who has big forward paces but anything above a walk he takes hold of the bit and sets through the neck and charges. I have worked for quite a while on improving the suppleness and encouraging the relaxation and moderation of the speed. This is much better but he still...

Mare problems or fundamental issue? - long sorry!

Can I ask what is she like when long reined or lunged? When you have the ability to collect her a bit more from the ground, does she down tools then too?

Dressage to music - please help a total newbie, anyone done it??

Hi GG Ive done it. As Joss says its very time consuming and frustrating so leave plenty of time before your competition. I downloaded Audacity as it will allow you to cut and paste music and speed up/slow down the tempo. Video paces and find out the tempo for all 3. Iphone has an app that will...

    Incredible Isleham!

Wow Steph what a great report! I only wish that I had half your gumption. I might pin your post to read before I go out competing so that I get a grip. Really well done! Hope youve had a great day today.

    Over-excitement in a dressage test!

I have a very similar beast. I love how forward he is but when tense he fixes onto the contact and I have to release the rein to prevent a tug of war. I find flexion and counter flexion really helps, which you can do in a test if you need to.
