Buying a 17 year old pony? I need talking into, or out of it 🤣

I’ve just bought a nearly 24 year old cob as he’s perfect for a disabled rider. 17 is nothing if it’s the right horse for the job!

How common are horse thefts thes

My horse was stolen from a field in 2021. I believe her field mate was targeted and she was taken at the same time, it wasn’t my regular field, luckily I got her back! I think the only reason I ever saw her again was because presumably she wouldn’t load for them and they couldn’t walk them as...

Easy to put on bridle..any such thing?

You might have to order from america, but some mule bridles have a clip on the top of the headpiece so that you don’t have to wrestle large mule ears through the bridle

Wobblers - what would you do?

I had an older horse that went suddenly ataxic. He was 17.2hh and the vet advised that he should not be in a stable, but if he had to go in a stable then no one was to enter the stable with him as if he went down it would be disastrous. (So to just open the door and put headcollar on from...

Another how much is my horses worth post!

I’ll start by saying this is not an advert at all, more curiosity than anything, and he’s currently out on loan so if he were to be offered for sale to his loaner in the future I’d want to make sure it’s at his current value and not an increased value after she’s worked with him. 16.2-3hh 9...

Owning a horse but not riding.

I’m fairly certain she doesn’t care that she’s not ridden. If you gave her the choice she’d probably rather stay grazing than working! So long as you can manage her weight without being ridden then there is 100% no harm in it! I have a 6 year old highland that I have had from 13 months old. I...

    Price of a companion?

Well, I’ve possibly dodged a bullet! Horse was meant to be coming tomorrow but she has backed out this morning. Back to the drawing board and looking again!

    Price of a companion?

I think I have seen your QH x tb advertised, he is gorgeous, but at £750 he is also above what I’d be expecting to pay for a companion, but I can understand your reasoning of not wanting to sell too cheaply and having them drugged up and sold on

    Price of a companion?

I will be loaning the one that the owner wants £900 for for now. But I would rather own, and I will aim to do that longer term but obviously not with this one unfortunately. I want to own, so that ultimately I am the one responsible for any decisions and can pts when I feel necessary and not...

    Price of a companion?

Thank you for all your replies, they are all very much inline with what I was thinking. The owner wants £900 and there’s no flexibility on price. I will still take her on loan, as I need a companion urgently, but I won’t be buying her. And should I find a suitable alternative in the future to...

    Price of a companion?

Hadn’t thought of the retired polo ponies, I’m on that fb page so worth asking, although they are usually all at other side of the country!

    Price of a companion?

I’ve spoken to my local horse rescue charity’s who haven’t got anything suitable. The bigger ones I imagine the process will take too long as I need one fairly quickly.

    Price of a companion?

I’m currently looking for a companion horse, I have been offered a lwvtb of a 15 year old retired with arthritis. But, the purchase price is much more than I would have expected. And I want to see if I’m just out of touch! I know horse prices have gone up, but I assumed that was just for...

    Feeding straw

I feed straw. Often ad lib, sometimes in a net. I could not safely feed them enough hay to satisfy their forage needs without them becoming obese (highland and 2 shetlands)

Grazing muzzles - done to death, I know, but....

I use the dinky muzzles, on my shetlands and my highland. Have stayed on when they have had their faces shoved in a hedge browsing, yet came of easily when my shetland got it caught on an electric fence insulator
