Hi I am looking for both ponies and horses to compete, I am 15 so have one more year left in juniors. If anyone knows of anyone needing a rider please msg me and I can pass on my details xx
I normally like to ride a hole shorter, being a show jumper, but it also depends on the size of the horse. If its a huge warmblood then I like to have my stirrups down a bit to feel him properly, but whereas if it was a small pony I like to have my stirrups shortened so my legs aren't dangling...
Any plans for the half term next week?
Mine are to jump at a couple of BS junior and senior shows and hopefully qualify for blue chip on the pony. Lots of hacking for my own horses, and schooling and jumping for owners.
I was tempted to use Mud socks, the shires ones, but I was too paranoid about mud going in between the boot and the leg, resulting in the mud rubbing and being uncomfortable.
I would do lots of lunging work with side reins to encourage and outline to help her work through her topline and back and help her gain a stronger back end.
Also ridden work in an outline would help massively, certainly did and does with my own horses!
Keysoe can be quite a spooky-ish place! Lovely venue though :)
I used to jump my old horse at 1m in trot only because he was SO happy in trot and worked out his take off point perfectly every time! Also was great for me while I was learning to see the take off stride and go with him...
I think it depends on how easy/controllable the pony is and also how confident your child is. If she is quite confident then a 12.2hh would be fine for her and would last her for longer. But if you want to raise her confidence then a slightly smaller pony 11.2hh would make her feel more in control.
To gain more competition rides for owners;
Get my discovery double clears on my youngster
Get my mare back on top form and compete her at an impressive height again
To learn lots :D
