Hi
I would really appreciate some advice on administering antibiotics (Trimediazine powder) to a two year old filly. The vet has prescribed a course of two sachets a day for ten days. On the box it says not to feed for more than seven consecutive days. Do I follow the vets prescription or the...
Hi,
Help please- we have a twenty-eight year old pony who suffers from uveitis. He has face masks which are fine on him but our three youngsters keep pulling them off. One has now been completely destroyed. Does anyone know if the Guardian mask is secure enough to withstand the constant...
Hi
We have had experience with cimetidine this year. Grey mare, 21. She was found to have a large melanoma in her rectum. After six weeks on cimetidine it had shrunk from 4cm to just over 1 cm and after another six weeks it had gone. She does have to be on a maintenance dose of cimetidine for...
I can't really suggest anything new but I can sympathise. We syringed pills three times a day for six weeks before putting them into feed mixed with lots of molasses, which we are still doing at the moment. After another six weeks the dose is reduced to one pill a day- she will be eating...
Hi
We used regumate two years ago on our 19 year old maiden mare. The vet suggested it so we put her on it for about a week (i think - can't remember exactly how many days but I don't think it was any longer than a week/ten days - maybe less). We then stopped giving it to her, two days later...
Hi
I had a myomectomy at the end of August. I rode again for the first time about two months later - a half hour walk out and I was exhausted. I built up slowly over the winter and cantered for the first time in March. A week ago I had a lunge lesson. Huge progress from where I started but it...
Hi
Very sorry to hear your news. My horse was diagnosed with the same thing at thirteen. He continued quite happily for another six years on a mixture of pain killers and Cortavet HA. This is a stronger version of Cortaflex. You can only get it from the vet and it is expensive but it is really...
Hi
I am looking for tips on how to teach a yearling to trot in hand. How do you get them to understand what you are asking them to do? Walking is no problem but how do you make that step up?
Thank-you in advance for any help
Hi
We have a colt that might be suitable. Lives out 24/7 with a field shelter. Aiming for weaning end of October into November. Very easy, laid back temperament.
We bred from two maiden mares both aged nineteen. From the mares point of view both conceived, carried and gave birth to the foals with no problems. In fact they both found it very easy. We were advised to use fresh semen rather than chilled semen because they were older mares.
However in terms...
Hi
The mare you should worm as normal, just checking individual wormers to make sure they are suitable. Wormers say on them if they are suitable for a pregnant mare and foals.
Our vet advised us to worm our foals every four weeks, alternating between Panacur and an Ivermectin wormer.
We have a twenty year old gelding. He lives out all year round with a field shelter. He hasn't been ridden since march but he can be. He is happy either way. he lived out with a twenty-four year old mare two winters ago. he now lives next door to a mare and foal. There is a bit of squealing when...
Hi
This might be a little long but I thought it might be helpful for first time breeders, especially those with an older mare. Any thoughts on the subject would also be appreciated.
We bred our first foal last year to a nineteen year old mare. He came out very small but otherwise seemed...
