One thing I can recommend is a liberal smear of Marmite on the bit, this will really encourage your horse to mouth up and accept the bit :-)

Hauling on a horses mouth in any type of bit is never an option ! No matter what type of horses it is be it a Tb or a Shire they are not "naturally heavy on the front end" by that I assume you to mean on the forehand? That is just poor horsemanship and bad riding !!

If you can't ride your horse without finding a way that doesn't hurt him, then I would most cordially suggest you give up riding..........

Don't know if you are still looking for saddle, I have Bates Caprilli for sale 18" with med and med/narrow front gullets it has Cair fitted. Horse retired no longer needed, almost new. BTW I used to have Ideal Jessica they are great but this one is better by far
