    Maybe the vets right

Don't worry - it isn't just you. I don't have to say my name, the girls at the vets know my voice in the phone. I joked about having a horse on permanent livery there. I've lost 3 in 2 years in succession - the last two 6 months apart, my robust Cob damaged her hock getting cast and I was...

Quest for the right bit... myler comfort snaffle ponderings

After deciding to look for an alternative to my nathe loose ring straight bar, I have hired a loose ring myler comfort snaffle. Initially my horse went really well, incredibly soft through her neck - i thought woo hoo!!!! That was until I halted and saw her tongue out and flapping around. I...

    Alternatives to a nathe

That might be worth a try, I wonder if its the metal she's not overly keen on. Shame I cant borrow or hire one as i'd wonder if the contact I get in a nathe is because of the material or the fact that its a straight bar. Not a huge amount of price difference between the nathes and beris. Thanks...

    Dirty Mare

Mine is a messy toad, but she has got a lot better after 2 winters in. She's on straw as its included in my livery and would probably cost me a fortune on shavings. Her stable is huge but a horse sized deep straw bed at the back seems to work the best. She is skewbald and very rarely goes to bed...

    Alternatives to a nathe

What do you find his flexion like in this though? The nathe is very soft and flexible, is the duo much different? Havent heard of a magic bit before?

    Alternatives to a nathe

Would be interested to know how you get on with it. I know what you mean about quality of contact, it was like a eureka moment when I tried the nathe.

    Alternatives to a nathe

Interesting... that's maybe an option to have a look at. Before I had her she use to hunt in an eggbutt single jointed snaffle, with her gob open where her teeth were sharp. She's never strong or pulls but can be against my hand at times, less is definitely more.

    Alternatives to a nathe

I haven't tried a myler, purely because I seem to get confused over the different types available. Would you go for a loose ring? It would have to be dressage legal (BE).

    Alternatives to a nathe

I haven't, mainly because they are so expensive and actually fairly difficult to find. I don't know anyone with a full cheek, only a 3 ring gag. I was wondering if it was the action of the straight bar which was affecting the flexion, where it lifts on the opposite side?

    Alternatives to a nathe

Another bit advice thread! I have been riding my ISH on the flat in a loose ring nathe snaffle, horse loves it and is very consistent and settled, best she’s ever been, but we are compromising my lateral flexion in this bit and some steering which caused us to wobble out of a dressage arena...

Most interesting comment from a dressage judge?

I laughed at one I had "keep going, I promise you it will be good!" Think the judge heard me call mine a monkey as I walked out. I have had a few "lovely change but sadly not required" in the canter! Had a friend write for judge at unaffiliated show last year, test was going well, judge seemed...

    Feeding forage when competing...

Mine has access to haynet in lorry at all times. Only time I withhold hay is before I go xc. No grass before hand as she has white legs! I try not to let her eat strange grass but its usually a battle trying to stop her, she falls on it like a starved horse after she's done and cooled down!

those of you with rear facing van type conversions, how do you store everything

I'm lucky as I'm so short, my spare wheel lives behind my drivers seat! Love my renault. Have saddle rack on back door and bridle on the side, although had to modify the hook as they kept falling off. I have two storage areas built into the lorry over the wheel arches. They have closeable lids...

Shopping help - Racing Breastgirth for big shoulders

I have a 16.2 ISH who I'm trying to find a racing breastgirth for. She is really broad across her shoulders, I've borrowed one to try which worked well but it was custom made and I don't really want to shell out mega money for one (as I've just had to buy a new saddle!) I use an extra full...
