Best way to get a young horse to focus on the job in hand

Oh no :( I hope you are ok? When I first started reading your post about him spooking at things 5 or 6 strides out I started chuckling as that's exactly what J does... And he's 8 and done quite a few events now!!! It is much less though. I'm sure Jones will get better the more he does. Maybe...

    Tweseldown times! HOW late?!!!

Yes all the poor fence judges :( They must be exhausted after such a long day. I've never had such late times before. Would it not be better for them to either run less sections or run another day (although I realise that would be more expense/volunteers needed). It just seems a bit silly...

    Tweseldown times! HOW late?!!!

Is anyone else a little shocked by how late they are running at Tweseldown? J is doing the BE100 + tomorrow and his xc is at 6.08pm with the last people in the section going at 7pm  What if there is a hold up earlier in the day? I hope that doesn't happen but surely there must be a time...

Iska prances perfectly round Purston..... (well, sort of.)

ROTTERS! You legend! What a fabuloso result! Well done :) J will be at Tweseldown on Sunday doing the PNP so say hello to him if you're about. I'm working abroad at the moment so I probably won't be back until next season. Good luck for Saturday!

Where's the best place to advertise for a sharer for a competition horse/s?

Ah thanks for asking this. Sorry to hijack, but I was thinking of trying to find a rider as well for my boy who sounds very similar to your first horse (but I need one for about the next year not just term time). Still don't know where to advertise though!

    BE -Calling Dressage Stewards/Organizers !!!

Really?! I know it's hot but for the sake of 4 minutes or so in a jacket, just man up and get on with it!!! :)

Does anyone have lessons with a BE Accredited Trainer?

I do too. When I moved to a new area, I didn't know any instructors there so I looked at the list of accredited trainers in the area on the BE website. I found her and recognised her name, did a lot of research and spoke to my (then) current instructor about her as well as a few others. I...

Valuing a horse? help please! (long post sorry!)

I agree with Lolo - about 6-8k. If you could get some consistent affiliated results, that would help. You say she does 1m15 courses with ease - have you done any BS? Maybe try and get her to a couple of BE and BS events. I know it's expensive but you could go on a ticket (although no real record...

    The Ride to 1 star

Dougie that is such a wonderful story. Seemed to have got something in my eye during your video! Wishing you and Lenny all the best and the hugest good luck for Blair :)

Advice Pls - To buy or not to buy?!

You have really asked 'which horse should I get?' rather than 'I don't know whether to get one again'! You can never be free of horses once you're in!!! If you're umming and arrr-ing about whether to get another horse or not, why don't you ask your instructor if you could do loan with view to...

Good horse but sack the Jockey! (Moreton PN report!)

I think you're too harsh on yourself! Sounds like you had a great day! Don't worry about the xc blip, we all make some mistakes that we kick ourselves for later but that's how we learn isn't it?!As for the sj, a clear is a clear! Embrace that! (That's my theory anyway, I certainly wouldn't win...

Price of shoeing - keeps going up....

My old farrier used to charge me £101 for a full set!!! No road nails, stud holes or anything. Unbelievable. Before I moved house my old farrier charged £76 for a full set so yes it is a bit ridiculous! I too remember the days when it was £40 a set!!

A how much please - insurance?

TBH I think you more need to consider if you can afford the premiums! I've got J insured for less than half his value because I can't afford to pay any more on the insurance premium! I'm assuming your vets cert from November 2010 is when you bought him? I'd use that figure and then add a...

    Bovington - ground???

I was keeping an eye on the list of entries and noticed the number of entries had reduced from last week! J definitely wasn't going to go xc. I said to Abi to go and do the dr and sj just to go out and practice (and seeing as it's about a 20 min drive) but she doesn't want to so will withdraw...

    Bovington - ground???

Just to let anyone know who's interested. I got a reply from the secretary (and there's also now an update on the BE website) that they have agrevated the course. However, I'm not convinced this is going to make much (if any) difference at Bovy where it is so hard anyway so J will not be xc-ing...
