    New horse before baby?

I bought my horse about 9 months before meeting my fiancé and we have had a great time over the last 4 years or so. We get married in a few days and will be trying to get pregnant shortly after. I have put my horse on full loan so that his needs are met, but I was utterly devastated doing it...

    Buying a horse with Sarcoids

Mine has sarcoids at the the moment key the ones you describe. Although they look ugly, the vet said that they aren’t really a problem most of the time, especially if they are away from the tack area. If you’re willing to take a chance that they might develop and need removing, then that’s up to...

How much would you pay for...?

Currently I am only considering selling, but it would be very carefully decided and would only be to the right people. He will be loaned if I can't go through with it - apart from these sarcoids (which the vet is pretty optimistic about, given how well they've responded to just one treatment...

How much would you pay for...?

Sarcoids are mixed type (only 3, one of which ulcerated) and growing in his groin area. They don't affect his ridden work in the slightest, although I was only doing light work in the heat to prevent it getting sweaty and the flies getting to it. Even after his first treatment, when the area was...

How much would you pay for...?

I mean, he will go without fuss and won't nap. It won't be a particularly fast walk unless you ask him, and he is more likely to spook on his own. It wouldn't be a forward hack, but you can do it. Contrarily, in company he is willing to go forwards and is much less likely to spook

How much would you pay for...?

Yes, that amount surprised me rather! The sarcoids are a new thing, and being treated to get rid of them. With any luck, they won’t return. In terms of the spookiness, I’ve responded at length in my post aboveboard, but it’s minor for the most part. It really isn’t just a case of having the...

How much would you pay for...?

With a confident rider, the majority of his spooks are sideways steps or scooting forward. That’s 99% of the time. The other 1% occurs when there isn’t genuinely something scary that most horses would be bothered by - in these instances, he usually moves sideways at a trot or jump to the side...

How much would you pay for...?

Thinking (and only marginally at that!) of selling my lad instead of loaning him out. 14y.o. gelding 16.2hh ISH-type (no breeding recorded in passport) Solid build - has carried 13st without problems Polite and honest to ride - no malice at all, tries incredibly hard to please Regularly ridden...

Need a cuddle and someone much braver than I to tell me what to expect/do

It isn’t okay to feel relief - plans definitely help me feel better, even when they’re something like this. Other than that, I have no answers to your other questions, but wanted to say well done for being such a great owner and I’m so sorry that you’re in this position in the first place x

Is £7k too much for an Ex Racehorse

Fair point - I wasn’t under the impression that he had done nothing at all, but I hadn’t thought particularly carefully about the specifics of what racehorses will have done before retraining. However, apart from a bit of XC schooling, the post mentions little else in the way of competing in...

Is £7k too much for an Ex Racehorse

More sensible than the £4K that is being asked for the unbacked 10 y.o. mare who is a nightmare to handle being sold at my yard!! Maybe a little high considering he hasn’t done much though.

    Sarcoids - post-treatment care

Thanks - treatment can’t wait, but the flies are part of the reason the specialist we are treating this way. Thanks for your advice ?

    Sarcoids - post-treatment care

Following weeks of waiting, my horse will be having his first treatment for sarcoids tomorrow. They are injecting something into each sarcoid (I think it will be mycomycin C) under sedation. The sarcoids are in the groin/inner thigh area. Obviously I will be asking the vet specifically, but I...

Fibroblastic sarcoid - emergency or not?

I will take a picture... if it’s a fly bite then I’m even more worried, considering what I saw! It’s dangly.

Fibroblastic sarcoid - emergency or not?

Thanks everyone - will phone vet first thing on Monday for an appointment. Horse won’t stay in at the moment, but I will do everything possible to keep it protected from the flies. As ever, it’s happened happened at the most inconvenient time!
