Baby steps definitely. I started with getting on, sitting for a bit and getting off again. When this wasn't scary any more I did a few strides of walk, then got off. Tiny little steps, done frequently, all add up. We can now hack out fairly confidently but if I feel my horse getting tense...
When I was an equine vet I would quite often get to yards on time, only to find that the horse was still out in the field because the client thought they were seeing my (chronically late) boss and so they guessed that they still had a good half an hour to go!
Oh my goodness, it is such a relief to read these stories! I have had my mare 14 months and feel like we haven't really got to grips with each other yet. I was feeling like if we haven't got it together by now then we never will and she's not right for me. She also has to live up to being...
Thanks Faracat, I wondered about pangare causing his blondy bits, hadn't realised sabino could cause the mane streaks. He his a few bits (under his mane and on his wither) that have white hairs in sort of small roany patches but they've got more obvious as he's got older so I thought I was just...
Is my boy wild bay, I've always thought so but not sure. He has the faded black points, mealy muzzle, faint dorsal stripe and a mane that's black, with some chestnutty bits at the side and white hairs flecked through. Hackney x Welsh sec D, if that helps.
Last year I became the proud owner of the actual same pony my 12 year old self longed for. I'm now 29 and he's 27, so it's taken a while to fulfil my childhood dream but he's here and he's brilliant and I'm grateful to the owner of the riding school where I met him for letting me have him on...
I was doing a test on my very tense, potentially explosive TB at a summer show once, lots going on around the arena and he spooked as he went into canter and shot forwards. I'm a nervous rider and it took a huge amount of courage to continue to canter the circle (albeit a hectic and wonky one)...
Do the colour experts agree with my wild bay assumption on my boy? Pics on page 22 of this thread, I can't get photobucket to upload them again, would love to know what you think.
I've been assuming my pony is wild bay, given his black mane and tail but his legs being quite grey, with only black on the joints. Prepared to be corrected though! He's red in the winter (first pic) and quite yellow in summer (second pic) and you can see his legs well in the third picture...
I'm not sure this is the problem, as I can see on indent of the pin in the back bit, where I'm in danger of hammering it through if I kept going. I've emailed the makers but no reply yet, couldn't get through on the phone.
So do I have to keep hammering until it pops through the metal bit at the back (both bits look like drawing pins from the top, if that makes sense, there's no hole). Then chop the spike off I suppose?
