Help, I can't find a breaking bit for my pony???

Thanks, I've never known the keys to cause more problems? Always found them great for getting the horse to play and enjoy the bit. I can't quite believe he only wants a 3.5 bit though, I took a guess at him measuring around 4", no smaller.

Help, I can't find a breaking bit for my pony???

Looking everywhere. I measured him at 3.15 inches, he is a 12.3hh ish Welsh B. I am looking for a 3.5 inch bit, does anyone know where does a lot of pony tack? Can't find a breaking bit small enough with keys. Also trying to find a full cheek, with either a french link or losinge in...

Question to all of you who do your own poo picking

Everyday, I've 3 ponies out 24/7 all year round. My partner helps me clear the fields daily but if I go away for 2, maybe 3 days, it never fails to amaze me how neglected they make the fields look from poo picking!

Those without arenas/sand paddocks how do you cope?

I hire a school now and then but hardly even, maybe once a month. I mow and have marked out a schooling area in the field with markers and sometimes put the jumps in there. Other than that, school on the roads. I think it does the horses good to do most of it in field.

Dissertation ideas are driving me crazy. What hasn't been done???

That's a good one. I didn't know there was a different type in draft horses till revising for my exam and I must admit my notes on it where limited, thanks I will look into journals for everything mentioned and sure to be asking more questions soon once I've narrowed my topic down.

Dissertation ideas are driving me crazy. What hasn't been done???

Thanks cptrayes, The foot one is great but a student at same uni as myself did a similar thing last year. Andiamo, the broodmare idea is great and much easier to be precise with what I'm looking for compared to their behaviour. The comparison of treatments is also very practical.

    Problems with the new horse

I couldn't even get a bridle on my new horse let alone catch him to lead anywhere. Yet he was young, one previous home with no issues and has no issues now he has settled in. Take the behaviour with a pinch of salt and it will literally just click and fall into place faster than you'd...

Dissertation ideas are driving me crazy. What hasn't been done???

I really need to be pulling info together on what I would like to do my dissertation on by now... But I still have no idea. I had a selection of ideas I took to my dissertation tutor and came out with 3 that are most to her interest of being realistic and doable. 1) Mares that have had foals...

Arthritic suffers more in the heat?!

I didn't know this. I knew the cold winters can be a hard time but very interesting that the hot humid weather can cause discomfort too. Hope your cob feels better soon

Would you buy a 15yo eventer

Yes but would definitely get my vet to do a 5 stage and maybe even x-ray legs. I know plenty of horses below the age of 10 that have retired for varying reasons and plenty of horses 15 years and over that are going strong as ever. Anything is a huge risk but good luck.

Learning curve, feel mad for thinking new pony would never settle in!!!

I'd be fibbing if I said I was totally chilled about the new pony not settling into his new home with me. Never had one not settle before and I had no idea how to go about it. Must admit, I have accused the partner of maybe swapping him with a look-alike Conny over the past couple of weeks...

    advice please!!

She looks very sweet! It's hard to judge a horses weight carrying ability by their type, condition and height, as so many other factors. But either way it's nice to see you're looking to do what's best for her. Hope it works out.

Help with hacking youngster out first time and alone

What tips do people have? Roads are pretty empty but single and sometimes fast round here. I have nobody to hack out with but would like to start hacking my youngster out. He has built a lot of confidence with me and I don't want him to get too comfy in the same old place all the time so he...
