Interesting everyone, thanks.
Vet came out today and took blood and will do a full blood work and test for cushings. The only way I can describe it is like someone has pressed mute. He’s there, but he’s on silent. We will see x
Yes! That’s one of the things I’ve found odd recently is he’s been funny about bringing in time when the first horses start coming in, like anxious. Even tho he’s always been fine
19 yr old connie gelding has been a bit quiet past few days. Had a really strange episode last week where he’d been cantering in the field and ten mins later when I grabbed him in he was really breathing hard and sweaty. Like he’d been galloping for hours. Took hours to cool him down. Then...
We had a really awful rat problem, to the point the insurance company refused to insure the farm anymore as chemicals were potentially at risk (old farmer, got away from him). He had tried cats before but he never fed them etc and they left. Few years ago a mum cat randomly turned up with 4...
Morning.
I am waiting for the vet to call back and advise but what is the best way to know for sure if a horse has laminitis or not?
We have been back and forth for weeks now. Initially treated as possible laminitis but also could be navicular or similar (lots of previous joint issues like...
We have very similar now. Vet said possible lami so let’s be safe and treat as that but could also be arthritis or bruised soles. Initially off the grass in a tiny starvation paddock then farrier thought more likely to be joint issues and he couldn’t find any signs of active laminitis but also...
yes I was wondering about hoof boots instead. Just had a quick look. What a mine field! Will have to research carefully.
He hasn’t been x rayed at this stage but she suggested we treat as laminitis and go from there. Either way he needs to lose weight and have movement restricted
Horse has been on/off lame for a few weeks now initially with what was thought to be an abscess then a bruise but still not right so had the vet out again today who now thinks laminitis. She thought he was lame in both front feet today and both had heat and a pulse…
He’s not very lame, more...
Hi!
I’ve had both the vet and the farrier and both think it’s probably a bruise rather than an abscess. Vet prescribed some bute and rest. He’s looking much sounder now. The ground is insanely hard here atm and he can be an idiot in the field!
My horse went very lame almost over night a couple of weeks ago. There was no swelling in the leg but heat in the hoof so treated as an abscess until a farrier could come out. Farrier used the hoof testers and had no reaction apart from one spot on/near the frog. He thought the abscess was...
