    powder vs liquid? (Cortavet HA)

Hello The vet has reccommended that I put my mildly arthritic veteran back on a joint supplement. I'm planning on using cortavet HA as thats what I used in the past (before a nasty case of laminitis put an end to bucket feeds for a long while!) Does anyone know if there is any...

    Veteran worries

Thank you everyone for all of your replies. The vet has just been, taken blood for ACTH test (which I got for free, thanks Laminitis UK!). In terms of feed advice, he was reluctant to reccommend anything - said I should contact one of the feed companies, which I will do. He said weight wise...

    Veteran worries

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. Its reassuring too know other people are in similar difficult situations as I sometimes feel like the worst owner on the yard because my horse doesn't look his best at the moment. Got the vet coming out on Thursday so will raise all of the issues...

    Veteran worries

Hello My 19 year old arab has started to show some signs of getting older and I'm a bit worried. He is a bit complex so I have encountered a lot of conflicting advice. The vet is coming next week and it is their advice I shall be following, but I thought it would be helpful if I had some...

Slowing weight loss in a laminitic?

My horse is on the recovery at last, after being on box rest since the beginning of Dec with laminitis. A fit, 17 year old 15.1hh arab, he was never over weight in the first place, but has dropped a bit of weight due to the restricted diet and recent over excitement (doesn't want to be on box...

Totally fed up, horse still lame.

MrsArt, I feel for you! I was fairly convinced he had lammy, he has had it in the past and it looked like a classic case, and I think he did have/has got lammy, but there is something else I'm pretty sure. Good thinking about the farrier, he is due out next week if all else fails. I hear...

Totally fed up, horse still lame.

Was on soaked hay and a tiny bit of haylage. Had to give haylage the last 2 days as no water and thick snow have made soaking impossible (cant have dry hay due to dust allergy). Handful of alfa a and alfa beet to get bute down him twice a day (both feeds reccomended by laminitis clinic)...

Totally fed up, horse still lame.

Hello all Just posting to vent really, not after advice as such as I will be ringing vet again in the morning. Horse came in lame last Thursday, typically lammy (heels back, pulses up etc). Vet put on box rest and bute, etc. A week later, bute down to 1 a day but really lame still...

    Fed up - laminitis again!

Thanks for your replies. Vet has told me to cut feed right down for now, and put him on soaked hay. This isn't totally practical so he's going on soaked hay overnight and small nets of haylage durng the day. Once he is 'over' the attack, he will go back on ultimate balancer and alfa beet/alfa a...

    Fed up - laminitis again!

Vet has just been out, 4 weeks box rest again for the horse that doesn't do box rest :( 2nd bout of lammi this year, having been more careful than ever. Was supposed to be going hunting for the first time next week, now my poor boy is facing christmas locked up in his stable with minimal...

Should I give it a go?

Thank you both for your helpful replies. I shall work on getting him jumping a bit more reliably (lessons!) and try to get out to a few things to confidence build. Got tanked off with at Kelsall today so now worrying I will lose control horribly and end up in the next county!

Should I give it a go?

Hello, first time posting in the hunting bit! My friend at the yard went hunting last weekend for the first time in ages and totally re-caught the bug. She wants me to come along too, and has suggested I go on the New Years day one. My horse is great, but between us we are not always the...

Buying nutraceutical online instead of from vet?

My horse was diagnosed with arthritis in his hock last year and the vet put him on corta-vet HA. He seems to be responding well to this and I want to keep him on it. It costs me £93 from the vets but I have just found it online at petdispensary for £49. Has anyone used this site before, is it...

    Laminitis and muzzles

You are very lucky, unfortunately I don't have my own land and am restricted on yard choice because my horse weaves and lots of yards round here won't have us. I also need all year turnout because of the arthritis and dust allergy, so again, limited choice. The yard does cater for laminitics but...

    Laminitis and muzzles

I know, he is in and hasn't been out the barn at all, but he does walk around his stable (On wednesday, he couldn't walk even a few steps), and he escaped to the next door stable yesterday whilst I was mucking out (has him tied to the haynet ring but he snapped the twine whilst I was in the tack...
