I have a young horse on loan at the and like you I am putting a lot of time, energy and money into him. Fortunately he is a blank canvas and the loan is a permanent arrangement, I don’t think I would want to put this much effort in if I thought he might have to go back, also I am very...
I have recently had to say goodbye to my beloved horse way before his time. I have a large long piece of his tail and want to have a bracelet made in a plain style with gold fastenings. Its hard to see what the quality is like looking online. Can anyone recommend a good place to buy from? Thanks
See if you can attend a bit clinic, there are so many bits to choose from it can be a minefield. We have recently had James Cooling run a clinic on our yard (East Yorkshire) he did an assessment of each horses mouth, saw them being ridden and advised on bits to try.
I have them for my rather long backed section D, he is 15:3hh and takes a 6'6" they are lovely rugs and fit really well on quite a large shoulder. I have a brand new Heavyweight Celtic 6'6" for sale (horse now retired so will never be clipped again so very unlikely to need such a warm rug) if...
Exactly! I have gone to the trouble of informing my vets that my yard owner and a friend can make a decision regarding treatment of my horses in my absence, I would expect that to extend to horses being euthanasied.
One of the vets we use waited for me to arrive before he gave two of mine their...
I can't be the only one with this problem. I have one of those fold down pole saddle rack in my horsebox which is useless! I am looking for an alternative and considering a rack with a lock which will hold a saddle in place, does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks!
I really appreciate these thoughtful, kind and straightforward replies. The comment that horses don't know how long they have been retired has struck a chord. I am still working through what to do and you have all given me food for thought. X
I am the same I do have horses to ride not just to play with and my gelding whilst being a fantastic ride is not much fun on the ground which I think is partly due to his pain issues which I am still not sure have been resolved so may lead us to a different solution especially when the weather...
Thanks very much for your replies here is a very belated reply / update. My attempt to get him back into work has not been successful. It has been really difficult as he has been impeccably behaved under saddle but his aggressive behaviour on the ground returned almost immediately once he was...
After agonising over buying a new horse I had a great year with my new horse until we ran into problems, long story short he has KS and SI inflammation. Vets have given the green light post injections to start bringing him back into work he may or may not be okay. He will never be the horse I...
I had to supply a reference when I registered with our equine practice, I put my boss down as he should have some idea if I am solvent! I can't blame vets really they are in business after all!
thanks for everyone's responses, I won't be letting him suffer and I know that I will never enjoy riding him again if there was slightest possibility of it causing him pain.
Can anyone offer me and my poor horse any hope? We have been on a rollercoaster of diagnosis which started with us thinking he had ulcers and ended with arthritis in his neck, kissing spines and inflammation around his sacroiliac joint, he is only 12. He has had steroid injections in all...
