Lazy or unmotivated dressage horse help

Problem fixed! On recommendation from a friend a ditched my schooling whip for a jump stick and ditched my spurs. Then whenever she didn’t listen to my leg I hit the saddle with the whip to make a noise. Within 5 mins she felt super hot and slight nudge from my leg we were in medium! We...

Lazy or unmotivated dressage horse help

I've tried adding magnesium to her diet but it made no difference/ made her worse if anything. I spoke to the advisor at equifeast and they said the feed i was feeding her before (topspec comprehensive balancer) was high in magnesium as well as a lot of other rubbish and makes quite a lot of...

Lazy or unmotivated dressage horse help

Sorry I should have said in the original post: she sees a physio every 6-8 weeks and saw her this Monday just gone and physio said she is feeling fab (she has a tendency to get easily tight as she’s quite short in the back but all the exercises we are currently doing and keeping her...

Lazy or unmotivated dressage horse help

I have a Hanoverian mare, 8 years old this year. She's always been relatively lazy at home- she's responsive to my aids but wants to put in minimal effort, especially when the exercise involves more effort. She's bred for dressage so finds certain movements easy i.e. piaffe, walk to canter...

    Best bridle for fussy warmblood

Trying to decide what bridle to get for my fussy mare! Have established that padded comfort headpieces don't make much difference to her as long as they curve around her ears (currently in a sd design bridle) However, she was in a drop but she was being too feisty at grabbing the bit and was...

    Embryo transfer advice

I have an extremely well bred hanoverian dressage mare who I am currently training up the levels in dressage (she is currently 6 years old). She has an incredible temperament and her ability is incredible as well as having excellent conformation etc. I also have a 7 year old connie cross who...

    Dressage/Schooling help?

I really feel for you as my boy was exactly exactly the same as yours! I ended up selling him as my passion is dressage and he clearly didn't enjoy it but the new owner is doing amazing things with him and these are the two things that helped them: 1. Getting him mega mega fit. And I mean...

    Competition livery yards in tewkesbury

Moving down to Tewkesbury from Leicestershire. Currently keep my horse at home but will need to move her into livery! (My parents are staying put in Leicestershire for now). So far, the only livery yard in Tewkesbury I have come across is Abbey dressage, although I am currently struggling to...

    Diamanté Browbands

Hi Charlimouse, I own Equiture and it is really strange and unusual that a crystal came out straight away! We use special Preciosa cup chain which is really resilient to crystals falling out. I know quite a few people who imitate our browband use cheap acrylic crystals which I have found pop...

    Competition legal pain killer

Apparently pasterns are more difficult than hocks etc because I guess the joints are a lot smaller and more fiddly. The vet used the term "closing the door after the horse has bolted" because the arthritis is so far progressed. All it would do is act as a pain killer.

    Competition legal pain killer

This is what she has- ringbone. But on the pastern bones in her hind legs. She has already had a tildren which did help and the vet said to slowly increase her work which we have done. The vet said joint injections would be very difficult because of where the bone deposition and...

    Competition legal pain killer

The vet said he would not breed from her but if I did an embryo transfer from another mare then she would be able to carry a foal no problem. I would no way breed from her genes as I wouldn't want to pass on the genes in case they are hereditary. Vet said joint injection is a possibility...

    Competition legal pain killer

I spoke to the vet and he said keeping her in light work is good to keep her more supple and her lameness decreases with work. I did find that I think it might be the surface at the place we compete at that makes her worse because it is quite hard and our surface at home is made of foam so is...
