My horse had some horrendous sarcoids when I got her. The liverpool cream sorted some out, Hilton herbs treatment sorted the smaller ones and the worst were trated at the Royal Veterinary College with injuections of Cysplatin (??) - a chemotherapy drug. All gone and have been for about 2 years...
I know you don't know me but OMG how exciting for you to be going to Badminton. I am aiming to get to the grassroots championships in the next 2 years but need to read up on how. I so envy you. Enjoy every second of it for all of those who would love to be in your shoes.
I am such a softie -...
I buy pure magnesium from my feed merchant for £4 a kilo. Very excitable mare who is now much improved. Still has her personality ;) but not so manic. It is the stuff he uses when he mixes his own feeds.. A kile lasts ages too as only feed 5ml a day
I would say you have a good chance. I trained a friends youngster for her to split the proceeds when she was sold. Actually went on to buy her at a vastly reduced sum as I had done the work - best thing I ever did :D
I have just done a rough calculation. I keep 4 horses on DIY. Without dentist or back person but including shows and estimated vets fees - including a contingency - mine cost about £1300 a month.
That is for 3 thoroughbreds - one who events, one who is a fun horse one retired 23 year old and...
Blimey - I thought my horses were dirty - I get through 4-6 bales a week for 4 horses. They have big banks and deep beds and are mucked out fully every day. I am fussy about getting all the wet and pooh too:eek::eek: Suppose I should count my lucky stars
I took a 3 year old with horrible sarcoids on who was described as 'not a people horse'. I can safely say I have never ever regretted it for a moment. SHe went to Potters Barr and had chemotherapy drugs injected into the sarcoids after the liverpool cream did not kill some of them off - tough...
I have the close contact and love it. My position is vastly improved. I have the GP on my other mare and when she used to jump I was nowhere nearly as steady in the saddle as I am in the CC
My girl has big hairy ears - she is a thoroughbred but left untrimmed I can actually plait her ear hair :D Yes I have tried and succeeded:p She also has a donkey breed society passport. Bless her. Honest as they come though
Have been letting my girls go in the stubble fields this week - boy can they shift. Marley still feels like there is more there but I need more room to get that:eek:
I recently moved yards after 22 years. Lots of friends left behind but lots of reasons for moving. New yard is brill and soon made new friends. Still in tough with old friends I want to stay in touch with so best of both worlds. GO FOR IT:p
