I have been at my current yard for just over a year, In that time it has changed from being a livery yard with storage units for external companies to a livery yard in the middle of all the units now being fully operational work units for mechanics, welders, etc. There is now cars, noise, mess, men and general debris everywhere. There has also been a couple of incedents that i have not been very happy with.

Also when i first went there i was just bringing my boy back into work. Now i am competeing regular dressage sj and xc. The menage surface is no good for jumping and it is a random square which means i cannot practise my dressage tests. So in the run up to any comps i have to hire out menages and travel out to them which is lots of extra expense and time to travel etc.

I have been to look at a great yard, 5mins away, great 20x40school, with proper surface all the jumps i could want a xc paddock. The owner is happy to help in any way, she has a paddock next to the menage which she lets liveries set up jump courses and leave up or she has dressgae boards that can be set up and left out if you need 20x60. So you can jump on grass or a surface. Stables are lovely, you can have your own paddock or share. Park lorry for nothing and there is only a handful of liveries so menage is always free!!

So what would you do i am scared to leave as i feel secure at my current yard and dont want to leave my friends, even though i do know half the liveries at the new yard and have done for years.

Any ideas cookies to all!

I wouldn't even need to think about it, I'd move, new yard sounds lovely, and as you say you do know people at the new yard, if there are anymore vaccancies would anyone from present yard move to ?

situations change and you have to make a decision on what facilities you need the most and what are the most important things that you need,

Think you really do need to move but explain the situation with you only moving due to needing a proper menage for dressage schooling, and give them plenty of advance warning, they are probably aware that you have to travel to hire out one which no doubt is a hassle in itself,
really need to make a list of the pros and cons of each yard, but bear in mind if you do miss riding with your buddies you could always make a day out by boxing hrse over to them and going out on a ride??

good luck hope you get sorted xx

to me it sounds like a no-brainer...from your post the only thing keeping you at current yard is yoeur friends. you'll soon make new friends, new yard sounds ace:)

Move!!!!! You'll still have your friends (an it's not far away if you want to meet up for a hack or something), plus new friends, and a whloe bunch of good facilities.....

I recently moved yards after 22 years. Lots of friends left behind but lots of reasons for moving. New yard is brill and soon made new friends. Still in tough with old friends I want to stay in touch with so best of both worlds. GO FOR IT:p

Based on the location in your name is there any chance you are at "C M" if so I appreciate your problem! If so I would move - maybe ask around a little to check it is really as good as it sounds - if it is then I would move.

I have asked a couple of professionals who visit the yard, ie farriers, back people etc and they have all said how it has had its moments in the past but it is now a lovely yard with really nice people. So i did think to look into it a bit before!!!! i am just really scared of the unknown , but if i want to get on with my competeing and training, i guess as everyone has said i need to have the facilities.

Thanks everyone for your input. Really has helped me.

Only other thing i can think of that could stop me is poo picking!! At the moment i pay to have it done, but at new yard i will have to do it, would that put anyone off??????
