    Opinions please.

Im not to sure on any tactics to use but have known 2 eventing horses like you say nappy at the start box both horses had nothing wrong they were just being really nappy so owners (fearless event riders) gave them a good telling off and rode them through it they both got over it. - one took 2...

    AFFILIATED & NON-AFFILIATED

Not sure what discipline your interested in but it is expensive to affiliate so really you have to be serious about it. There are stricter rules when affiliated to. Aswel there is the issue of height for eventing it starts at 3ft sj, 2"9 xc so you obviously have to be able to jump this height...

    what is a "positive rider"?

Oo how exciting! A postive rider is one that rides a horse forward thinking and gives the horse confidence, you need to be there for the horse. A non responsive ride is one of those horses you have to pc kick and can often be hard work! I agree with others when the package comes like that is...

Doing first ever Dressage test tomorrow! Any tips?!

How exciting! A good tip is be accurate you will not get below a 6 mark for an accurate move. Ride corners they are v important and when riding up centre line dont worry to much about what the horse looks like, look up at judge and ride straight to them, that way you should get a good line. Hope...

How long did it take you to 'click' with your horse?

My lovely mare has had a bit off a rough and full life from what i know of her history, i have had her for 2 years since a 8 yr old, when i got her she was very nervous of people and very headshy it didnt take me long to get close to her but i think she wasnt willing to trust anyone, but after a...

I bet your so glad she is back in work and prob keen to get out and compete in this lovely weather, but i agree the ground is a big problem atm. Hibiscrub - to rinse off or not???

I would rinse it off as it can affect and burn skin, you never know it may be uncomfortable, itch etc... however if you do leave it on make sure it is throughly diluted as the ratio of hibiscrub to water should always be 1:40!

Harsh training or just what it takes to succeed?

I agree harsh training is not needed, i have two completly different examples of riders that both event an inter level, i know them both well and one is what you would call a harsh rider who will beat the horse round a course who physically and mental is not ready, she put one pony (15hh) with...

very pleased with my horsey :D also need some advice

Some of the best riders i know however confident they are still sometimes mess up on strides, however many showjumpers dont bat an eye lid at them strides can get complicated especially when you stop ridding. Why dont you spend some time working on strides even over poles, if you start messing...

Correct v's effective - what do you ride like

In my opinion sometimes you have to ride effective to tell the horse what to do and then teach the horse by riding correctly. for example rein back - it may not look right but nearly every horse will rein back if you gentle apply pressure to the reins tilt your pelvis back into the saddle and...
