A Day In The Life Of A Work Rider - Legs Like Jelly!

Another great post. What a 48 hours it's been for the yard. Fantastic win and inspired ride by Derek on Corach Rambler and a great run in attritional conditions by Ahoy Senor (despite some ... err, interesting shapes over some of the fences).

Cheltenham Day 2 - Clash of the Titans!

Never have been, never will be a fan of either Gordon Elliott or Davy Russell, but all credit to Tiger Roll. I hope he has the best of retirements. Heart of a lion and made of teflon, he's been a wonderful little race horse. Similarly to Politologue. Happy retirement big unicorn.

    Cheltenham Day 1

Congratulations to Lucinda, Scu, Derek, Jaimie, the Ramblers and everyone at the yard. Absolutely fantastic win, which was very similar to One for Arthur's National win coming from literally no-where. Great holding of his nerve by Derek, in the knowledge of the capabilities of the horse.

I’m not sure what to think….

I'm equally confused (and upset / angered) by him and the person sitting on the horse, who sat there and let him. If someone had done that to a horse of mine, I would have dismounted into the water if necessary, left the horse standing there and punched the trainer, even if he was a "Sir".

    Farewell Galileo

A great racehorse and has left behind a legacy the quality of which we are unlikely to see again for some considerable time.

    Scottish Grand National

Delighted for all connections at Arlary / Kilduff. This horse has been running out of his skin all season - 2 wins and a second in three Nationals.

    Honeysuckle

Some great performances so far in the first four races at Cheltenham, Shishkin was superb and I'm so happy for Ryan Mania (and of course Vintage Clouds, Sue & Harvey Smith and Trevor Hemmings). But Honeysuckle .. what a mare, ridden brilliantly by Rachael Blackmore. A deserved champion.

    Altior

Altior has been withdrawn from the Champion Chase at Cheltenham. A dirty scope, apparently.

    Gordon Elliott

The statement that was issued about Denise Foster taking over the licence, with GE on hand to assist, sounds like he's sticking two fingers up at the IHRB.

    Royal Highland Show 2021

I agree, it's not very clear at all. There also seems to be some theory doing the rounds that they would live stream classes that support Scotland ie Highland ponies, Sh*tlands, Eriskays, Clydesdales etc plus Highland Cattle and some BSJA showjumping (because there's no way the RHASS would...

    Royal Highland Show 2021

Sorry to see the announcement that the 2021 show has been cancelled. It has probably not come as a shock to most. Pre-pandemic, no one would ever have believed we would have gone two years without "The Highland", but like so much else, can only look forward to a great comeback celebration in 2022.

    Edinburgh National

Congratulations to Mighty Thunder, Blair Campbell, Lucinda Russell, the owners and all the team at Arlary / Kilduff (including H&H forum's own "Elf On A Shelf") on their win at Musselburgh in the Edinburgh National. An absolute 4m+ slog in that ground.

    First Splat Of The Year

I like Mint Gold a lot. Great plan on the part of VD to follow the boss's orders and not to get too far away from the racecourse stables. Bit of a messy race all in all. Poor old Garde la Victoire got a kick in the face from the falling Fanzio.

    First Splat Of The Year

Ouch! Hope you're okay. Please be mindful of further delayed concussion. I hope Voix D'eau and the lovely Mint Gold are too. Neither looked too thrilled at the thought of New Year's Day racing.

    Altior

Altior was beaten by a very good horse in the making today. That said, Nico de Boinville looked to be sending out help signals at times, and having watched Chacun Pour Soi running at Leopardstown an hour or so previously, on today's performances, the only view Altior may see of him at...
