    Way out Weigh Tapes

Normally mine is within around 5kg either way on weigh tape vs weigh bridge but we had them weighed this morning and the tape was 20kg less than the scales - one of the cobs was 90kg less on the tape 😧

    Remedial shoeing for contracted heel

It’ll be the other way around likely, the thrush is caused by the contracted heels which lead to a narrow frog giving a perfect place for bugs to hide in the central sulcus, that causes pain so horse doesn’t want to use the back of the foot to load properly … and it will almost certainly all...

    The future of livery yards

There certainly seems to be more vacancies being advertised locally of late and for all types from DIY to full. One I saw recently advertising I had taken 2 years to get to the top of the waiting list previously. From people that I know some have downsized the numbers that they own to reduce...

    Rugs least likely to slip?

I’ve found swish rugs not to slip where PE and Weatherbeeta both have sometimes on the same horse - they seem to work well with broader horses as the neck is cut higher

Unsellable horses and cost of living

Interestingly around our way some of the lower level part & full livery yards are starting to convert back to offering assisted diy / diy - I guess the rising costs of bedding, feed, wages, electric etc. have taken their toll and when most part livery was already £650+ before the crisis there’s...

The perfect ponies halo’s have slipped

You can definitely straighten them! In a vice as others have said or if you’ve got a sturdy gate post & latch stick it in the latch and pull them back to straight (ish!)

Looking for a patent leather Cavesson bridle or bridle bits to make 1 up.

Sabre bridles are always nice quality and they do a patent range - https://www.shop.sabreleather.co.uk/tg--signature-bridles-55-c.asp

    Second Viewing and vetting

Always a 5 stage for anything ridden, a lot can happen in the space of a year illness or injury wise so I personally wouldn’t rely on an old vetting.

Does any horse have a standard size head?

Yes, mine fits a standard full size well every time - he’s the only one I’ve owned though that I’ve not had to mix & match sizes for

    Silly question about bananas

I’ve only once offered my chap a banana, leaving it peeled on the stable floor for him when he came in - I was not expecting the response that we got, it was akin to the cat vs cucumber YouTube clips 😂 … haven’t dared to try again for fear of the vets bills it might cause!
