What age did you retire your horse and why?

I am having the same dilemma currently. My boy is 26, lovely lad. He has bit of arthritis in left shoulder. Other than this he's fine in my view. He has become lazier over last 12 months, canter few strides an he's had enough, trot ok, but you have to keep leg on. With this an the fact sometimes...

When do you know its time to stop riding

When do you know your pony is ready to stop riding. He stumbles on his fronts sometimes, often just plods along, then stops and just looks about, I put my leg on an he carries on, but its as if hes only doing it for me. Doesn't object to being tacked up or anything, and is very happy in...

    Wood Pellets vs Aubiosse

Am very very tempted to switch, he is in a very large stable with mats, does walk around a lot which worries me he may trash it, with pellets that isn't an issue really, and yes they get v v dusty after a while, think with pellets every 3 months you need to clear all out an start again really.

    Wood Pellets vs Aubiosse

Have used wood pellets for past 5 years, great for wet pony, can deep litter it to if need be. I do find it rather dusty though unless damp down daily. But you throw nothing out other than poop as bedding doesn't stick to it. It's cheap, around £3-4 a bag. Now I also like Aubiosse and my pony...

    Straw pellets vs wood pellets?

I also use wood pellets best have found for wet horses, does dry their hooves v quickly which am not sure is a good thing, I love them apart from the dust that they create an a lot of it, have heard people lightly spray them every day an stops that problem though.

    Feed & Soaking

Well I was giving him 2 soaked nets a night, which I weighed and are 5kg a net, so to much there already, so have cut out the S&S and will now give one 6kg net soaked overnight from now on, as realize he was getting far to many calories from forage.

    Feed & Soaking

Not 100% sure what he is X with, on a score of 0-5 would say he prob ranks v close to the 4 if I am brutally honest with myself, when got him was literally obese HUGE, had been in a field for near on a year no work and v v lush grass, could not get a saddle to fit, now has a K&M with XW bar in...

    Back issue / dissmounting

Hi All, So a question of 2 sides here. A guy at the yard has a rather wide & chunky pony, this is where the first half of the Q comes, after riding him for around 15 mins lets say, his ball & socket joints start to sieze up as he rides him, guess probably due to pony being on the wide side ...

    Amigo Mio

Those who use the Amigo Mio rug how do you find the fit on a chunky pony ? Am finding my Bucas ones come up a little tight and drop v low on the chest, are the Mio better ? Also with neck or without as notice only £10-£15 more to have Mio with neck, any advice welcomed.
