    Insurance for hired trailer?

Hi all, a bit of help would be appreciated please...am hiring a trailer from my livery yard, to go on a fun ride, and (stupid me) have just seen the small print saying hirer is responsible for trailer insurance. Oh bugger. Does anyone know where I can buy insurance online/ over the phone on a...

Ticks: how do you get 'em off?!

If your horse will stand still then the best way to remove them is to use tweezers and CAREFULLY twist them clockwise. This unscrews them, but careful you dont pull or you can end up leaving the head in. If your horse is a fidget, or the tick is in an awkward place the easiest treatment is to...

what wud u feed this pony?

If you're worried about sugar levels maybe swap to something unmollassed like dengie hi-fi or hi-fi lite so he can still have fibre to bulk out his feed and add a balancer like top spec or blue chip to make sure he is getting all necessary vitamins etc. If you're unsure its probably best to talk...

Cold water in morning feeds, what do you think??

I always put cold water in Zips feed - there is a tap 6ft away from my feed bins tho so is very handy. I damp it down quite a bit as he can get a bit choky but if I try to do it in the morning ready for evening, or at night ready for next morning he wont eat it as the nuts go completely to mush...

Big Exhale - I've done it, SCC online

Well done for taking the first step . My OH is on his way through SCC with a non-paying customer so I have a bit of an idea how it works (as I have to do his paperwork!!) After you have filed your claim they (the bad guys) have a limited time to respond (I think 28 days from date you filed on)...

How many of you actually have a signed contract for your livery yard

I've been on 2 without contracts, one was fine - owner was the nicest man i've ever met, the other was horrendous - owner kept changing prices, where we had to buy haylage from, how much turnout etc. I've also been on 2 with contracts, these have both been fine. Current yard has quite a few rules...

    Livery costs - opinions please

Yes we lose all facilities except grazing, I have only ever lost use of stable over summer before, not tackroom etc. Measles thanks for your reply, its good to hear the reasoning from both sides. I do think £35 in winter is good (when its all finished!!) I just think its a bit sneaky of him to...

    Livery costs - opinions please

Settle yourselves down for this one, its a bit of an epistle (for which I apologise but hey). I'd like opinions and advice on the livery yard I am at at the moment. I moved to it in November 09 when it first opened and up to now things have gone fairly well. Everyone gets on well and the horses...

How to make box rest less boring

I have a dodecahedron (sorry can't spell) for Zippy. Fill it with treats or pony nuts and he has to roll it round to empty it, bit harder than a normel treat ball as the points send it all over the place. Unfortunately Zip is getting a bit good now - he is the horseworld equivelant of David...

How many of you feed mints to your horses

Zippy gets the occasional one, but not very often as he goes all sloppy afterwards and insists on licking my coat for ages (yuck! ) He gets a herby horse treat every time I turn him out and catch him as he's sometimes difficult to catch so I view it as encouragement . Too many titbits make him...

    Riding with "balls"

[ QUOTE ] For some reason I can still rade anyone elses horse with balls - when it comes to my own i'm a real wimp - it's all in the mind ! [/ QUOTE ] I think thats fairly normal tbh. I rode my friends youngster when we were at college and galloped her up the common next to the racecourse. My...

Oh. my. god. not sure which one of them is worst. Anyone who can list the positive things these two bring to equestrianism I challenge you to list them below. (making us all feel better about our abilities doesn't count as one)

    Sharpening clipper blades??

Some advice please everyone - how often would you recommend sharpening clipper blades?? I have Liveryman Harmony clippers, they were new last winter and have done 2 trace clips on a 15.2 'fluffy' (he is quite furry but it is very short soft fluff rather than coarse winter hair) I want to go for...

    What to do - yards?

Generally agree with everything said so far. Have you also considered that the petrol and livery money you are saving could go into a pot to help toward transport fees (or maybe even your own trailer eventually). Good luck and trust your instincts x
