Just spotted this ad -would you spend this much

£40000
Height: 16.1hh
Age: 4 years
Type: Sports horse, Dressage, Eventer, Show jumper, Youngstock
Gender: Stallion
Star of the future

Oh :(:(:(

Thought you were offering £40K and I was first to say yes :D

Depends on what his breeding is. Assume he's been fertility tested. Personally no as a) don't have £40k spare; b) not a breeder, but am sure plenty would.

Wish I had a spare £40,000 to give !! I'm not in that league 😌
I know that some stallions are expensive - but this ad just jumped out re price &
I just wondered what others thought

If thats the advert its laughable!

No, i most certainly would not.

The advert says a little more - but didn't want to paste all of it - Incase I got told off for advertising

Would have to knock a zero off!

my thoughts exactly! if its the horse in that video i wouldnt be offering them more than 3500 most. the horse spent most of the time on its forehand, not once did i see it round up and it was skimming the jumps... i know its only 4 but i would expect it to be schooled to a decent level for that!!

Rest of ad

this stunning 4 year old has attitude and style and is ultra careful and brave. A star of the future with scope to burn, was placed equal first in three 4 year old finals including Addington Now jumping newcomers, areal star nor to be missed. Licensed with the AEs, first foals born 2013, 100 percent fertility rate.

Quite a nice horse actually, its not even putting in much effort over those fences and finding the 4 yr old class easy (PS Addington YH champs are build up to height and only the better ones will go clear!!). Depends on bloodlines also. I bet when the fences are up up to a decent height he will show you what he's really made of. And 40k isn't that much at all if its going to be a serious horse. Produced properly thats the sort of horse that would be in the 6 yr old finals.

I'd love to know where you can get one like this for < £4,000. Please tell me where? I actually watched this horse jump in the flesh at Weston Lawns in the summer and we all thought he was fabulous, hence recognising it as soon as I watched video. Wish I had £40,000 and was 30 years younger.

40k is pretty standard for a decent 4yo stallion with pot for upper levels, take a look at some of the auction results from around the world last year. 40k doesn't go far!!!

Are you kidding? It's FOUR! How on earth do you expect a four year old to be more advanced in its schooling than that?

They are not selling on his current level of schooling, but on his potential, both as a performance horse and a breeding stallion.

Would I buy him? No, I don't have 40k, and I don't have a need for a stallion! But is he worth it? Quite possibly, if he has the potential for the upper levels.

Exactly. Some top performance stallions, once proven, are hundreds of thousands to buy, this is what they cost at the bottom of the tree. Someone buying this level of youngster will hope that it will increase in value by ten times that. Some won't, but if they know what they're looking for, mostly they will and a good performance breeder will risk the odd few that don't make it.

I think people must be watching a different video to me... I didn't see much fence skimming or an unhappy horse. More one that was enjoying his job and making a good job of it. Anyone that thinks a horse like that is only worth 4k is bonkers surely!?

Personaly wouldn't pay that much, neither could I, but amongst the top pro's easily if the stallion is seen as a potential superstar.

He looks a nice horse with both competition and breeding potential, i can see why they are asking that money, and i can also see that they may well get it. I was offered that amount last year for my 4yr old dressage gelding, so there are clearly enough people around happy to spend that on a 4yr old! And if anyone is wondering, i turned the offer down, i love my 4yr old and he is here to stay.
