1 year old and broken to ride and drive!!!

It's strange this sort of thing - because you don't get conversation on here much about how it's terrible that 2yr old horses are in racing, but if it's any other horse seen it causes outrage. (Not aimed at you at all - I just picked your post!:) )

I thought about raising that point, but then I'm not a fan of that either......

Also is it me or is the saddle the wrong way up and should be resting on the pommel not cantle.
Know its nothing compared to the horse but just noticed it!

If I saw a fat lump sitting on a 2 yr old TB I would post a link to that too.

I know exactly what you mean! I am also against the age they start racehorses, but also different breeds do mature faster/slower.
I guess because it is the 'norm' in racing, no-one bothers mentioning it?
Got to admit, this poor pony looks very young, I think you should go for how they actually mature rather than their actual age- a friend had a very mature horse that they backed at 3, but I waited until mine was 4 because he took a while to mature.

Spot on. Also the reason their is not a minimum age a horse can be ridden is because of the racing industry.

Regarding the would be "rescue" thread also in NL- I don't necessarily agree with buying that filly as of course it's supporting an industry that produces poorly bred, "rescue" cases to make money. However if someone can offer the poor creature a good home I wouldn't begrudge the filly that as I don't agree it should suffer in order for people to make a point. Its a catch 22 situation unfortunately. I don't think the pony in this case is being sold by a dealer as I'm sure even the lowest of dealers could put together an ad better than this crappy excuse for an advert. So at least if someone did decide to buy him just to give him a home there is a lesser chnce he will be immediately replaced. If I had any need at all for a pony cob I would consider helping this poor thing by offering it a home. Unfortunately livery costs are far too prohibitive for me to keep something I've no use for. I'm sure most sensible horse people feel the same which is why there was only a handful of posters offering to have the filly in the other thread. Life is cruel and whilst the sight of that disgusting slob sitting on the poor pony has made my blood boil it's not realistic to try and buy every animal I come across that tugs at my heart strings. :-(
Secondly- a two year old racehorse being backed for racing has usually been extremely well fed and looked after to give it every chance of success. It's not a malnourished, undersized little creature being ridden by an obese teenager who prob has not an ounce of horse sense. Whatever about the rights or wrongs of backing a racehorse young these two situations are worlds apart.

You can marry at 13 in some cultures but it does make it RIGHT.

This is the sort of absurd comment which perpetuates such vile practices in this industry in the 21st century.

You don't say if you agree or not, but from your comment I deduce that you care not, about the age a horse should be ridden. Which is why I assume the worst...

I could be wrong, in which case I await to be corrected about the attitude of this single post.

CD he is rising 2, fair enough he could go in show ring for 2 yr olds, but I'm actual fact he is not yet even 24 months old and he has been broken to ride and drive, I don't care about 'technicalities and nitpicking' he is NOT 2 is he, and clearly wasn't anywhere near 2 since hes already riding an driving and being described as 'rising'

See I could comment without being banned... Just took a bit of time!

The add did make me giggle - worst written add ever!?

How about you stop bitching about this and give me some advise to pass on to my friend on my thread??

Finding it difficult to make sense of your comment. I support a law being brought in as regards a minimum age a horse can be ridden, but it is not possible due to the racing industry.

Disgraceful - press the "report ad" button - if everyone here does it hopefully the ad will be removed. I have suggested that the website owners should contact the RSPCA ! (not that they will do much !)

Bit of an odd post and maybe not nice to try to be funny on a thread expressing concern or a pony's well being.

Btw the shortened version of advert is 'ad' not 'add', just in case you ever have to write one and want your spelling to be more impressive than the subject of this thread ;)

Well I couldn't fathom your post either.

I think I understand you now though. It isn't right for horses to be ridden at two... The excuse is thoroughbreds mature earlier. Many find this hard to believe as they descend from ancient breeds who do not mature until later.

It's all money. That is what makes law.

I thought you wre in support, but now I see you are on the same page as I am.

I'm glad you have reported the ad I have as well so that's at least 2 of us

Thanks for the advice! I just find it strange sometimes that people are so keen to go on about something where they aren't going to make a difference - I'm asking for advice on behalf of someone, on a similar subject, and no one bothers to say anything!

Would that be the 'What to do with a 2yr old cob?' thread? If so how about don't ride it if you look like a lump of lard? In fact unless it is nearly 3 don't sit on it at all!

How about why don't you reply to the thread, it's not me, and the person in question is 8 stone - hardly a lump of lard!

If anyone thinks that having a light person sit on a 2 1/2 yo for 5 mins will do him any damage please speak up - that was the point of my thread!

As for this thread - Gypsies treat horses/each other like rubbish. Not sure there is anything we can do about it?
