Gahh, it's horrible!
Scared of ringing them?
Sorry but isn't that a bit hysterical? Also, if you're interested in buying her, how will you achieve that if just speaking to them on the phone frightens you?
There are definite welfare concerns within the traveler community. But demonising and hysteria won't help. I hardly think they're going to do anyone any harm over the phone.![]()
Lol, more just curious how much such a horse is worth! So am a definite time waster![]()
In this sort of situation the argument "buying it will just fund more" is completely irrelevant, and just an excuse to turn a blind eye.
It may be true of, say, puppy mills and the like, but not here. These horses don't get bred to fleece ignorant buyers. The advert wasn't put up to tug at heartstrings. Whether the filly is sold or not makes no difference to the breeders and sellers. If no one buys it and it ends up broken down and chucked aside, there will still be more to take it's place because breeding is a way of life for these people, not an industry, and they will carry on regardless.
So if a few end up being bought by people willing to give them a better life, it won't change how things are, but it will change everything for that particular horse.
Yeap £2,300....I went before twice to look at horse for friend from same person, paid alot more then that for hers, more money then sense but he was the fastest in some crazy trotting race.
As I said they aren't cheap, there not your standard fall in love and save, every person that fuels them money is encouraging it, I'm not ignorant or ignoring it at all. Horse is cheap for what they normally sell aswell.
Here's your answer to this, people will pay big money for this sort of thing.
Forget about calling on animal welfare charities to sort this, they won't be able to. As long as people pay, horses will be treated in this way.
How would the Farrier who shod the youngster come off if he was reported for shoeing a 10 month old which did not require remedial shoeing. Was it ethical ?

My money would be him being a "farrier", rather than an actual trained and qualified farrier.

They shoe their own and I think the word *farrier* is not applicable. They just hammer shoes on the poor blighters.
Surely they could be prosecuted on those grounds then if nothing else. After all they got Al Capone for Tax evasion not for being a gangster.
It is in UK.It is not illegal to shoe your own horse believe it or not.![]()

It is absolutely illegal in the UK!!
Well evidence is easily found to prosecute as the colt is wearing shoes & they would need to come up with a qualified farrier to admit putting the shoes on, failing that they would be liable I would have thought. If you can't get someone through the front door it is worth going around the back.
