ok so my Mum's started looking for a nice little horse which she can just hack about on.

We found a lovely little dales and we went to see him today.

He was advertised as a 7yo dales,15hh sensible ride,be an ideal childs pony a absolutely bomb proof, hacks alone or in company. Great to shoe, box, catch. Good on flat work, done a few small jumps. Ridden and groomed by small child.no vices, a real gent.

The whole advert was a lie :/
when we got there he looked a
Sorry state, slightly underweight grubby and in a poor fitting saddle.

The lady said he had never been shod but in her advert it said he had been, it also said good to box and she said she bred him herself and he had never been in a box but knew he'd be ok :/

then worse to come the lady was overly keen that she didn't want to ride him so I asked her daughter who reluctantly agreed, but got on.

We headed out on a hack & the poor little mite was terrified everytime a car drove passed he would leap to the side or spin in circles. He took off with the girl riding him and hit into a parked car we only went 5 minutes up the road but that was enough the poor thing had got himself all worked up & was spooking at everything that moved.

and when asked when he was last ridden, they said he hadnt been ridden in months. :/ and that no one really ever does much with him.

Extra glad I didn't get on now :)

Bloody hell! Did they just think u wouldn't notice?! Or that he'd miraculously become the pony they'd advertised?!
Idiots. Poor pony though. How much did they want for him?!

What a wasted journey for you and what a shame for the poor little horse. I have never seen so many unsuitable horses as when I was looking for a happy hack for novice OH! Maybe try through word of mouth?

I know, he looked like a different horse in his picture :/ he was advertised for £1600ono luckily we didn't travel to far as he was only about Half hour away.

he didn't even have his own bridle all there horses shared :/ they all seemed to be same skinny build.

Soon as we got there the place was a tip it was there back garden but was horse poo everywhere and miserable wet bored horses that stood knee deep in mud no grass :( with only a small bit of land with 8 horses in total. the stables leaked aswel.

my mum was talking about buying him but more out of pity then suitability, as sad as it is I wouldn't let her purely because his not right for her & will knock her confidence.

Such a sad thing to see though :(

We shall keep looking but be more picky I think, word of mouth is probs the best way I think too many con-artists about in it for the money

It's dispiriting you just have to keep at it and never ever get on the horse first.
Why people think you will buy a horse they have made no effort with is beyond me . You Just have to keep looking at adds , keep asking everyone you know looking in every vets feed merchants and saddlers you go to if they have boards up.
Good luck.

I sure as hell wasn't getting on him specially when she explained she had to adjust another bridle as he doesn't have one - bit strange as this little fella was meant to be ridden quite Abit by a heavy weight rider :/
