Pony in question has good short back, lots of bone but is quite young - 5 yrs - a total saint and very laid back but primarily for a small novice 7 year old and am thinking occasionally it would beneficial for someone a bit more experienced (eg me) to hop on and do some schooling / traffic proofing / hacking out with pony just to give experience etc. What do you think? Would love to have a smaller good jockey but to no avail and am a bit fed up of naughty little ponies knowing that they can get away with stuff (not this little gypsy cob one but 2 previous welsh a's that I obv couldn't get on) so wondered if trying a different tactic ie bigger pony but more consistent schooling would work....

i'm 12st 7 and ride a 13.3 welsh. as long as pony has no issue carrying you (and mine certainly doesn't) i see no issue with it.
though saying that it really helps if you are a balanced rider :)

You should be fine, these stocky little ponies can carry alot more than people think. I always go with a hand per stone for good boned chunky gypsy cobs

Yes.

If it's a proper well bred gypsy cob it should be able to take that without any problem most of the time! Black stallion in sig cantering in the field is 13.3hh. I'm 12stone just over and about 5ft9. I'll be damned if there's actually a person too heavy for him tbh. :)

Is it fit? If so what's its body weight? Recent tests suggest 20% of body weight is ok; after that it begins to put strain on joints.
