Bey the 2year old and Kay the 5 year old are turned out together in the bigger winter field.
while Pig, my 19year old, is in her own smaller paddock so i can ration her grass/hay intake due to her laminitis/weight and so she doesnt get pestered by B.
the 2 get on fine most of the time, although i think Bey does pester Kaya quite a lot and make her swap haynets in the field until she finds the one she likes best which winds K up lol
until someone comes down to bring them in.
then Kay pulls a face at or approaches the gate/ Bey, (who is now the rather bossy boss
)and Bey spins round threatening to kick Kay. she doesnt normally actually kick out though.
however Kay almost always bucks out as she slopes off.
there have been a few times when they have been bum to bum both threatening each other...
or one has been 'trapped' by the gate.
I am worried one could get a serious injury.....
they have been out together for a good 2 months so they are well used to each other and have plenty of hay/haylage over the daytime.
Kay has come in with a little cut on her thigh and bey has come in with a large swelling due to bruising on her back cannon from a kick over the last month.
SO would you -
leave them to it and hope they dont hurt each other
put Pig (Bs dam) back out with B in the big field and keep kaya on her own in the smaller paddock?and just ration Pigs hay even more over night
while they are in and put her muzzle on (which she hates) when the grass comes through?
or put Bey in the smaller paddock on her own and put the other 2 (both good doers) in together?
none wear shoes.
Pig is the definate boss over Kay and they never have a to-do as they both know where they stand.she is still far too tolerant of Bey though and will let her pester her...
argh!
