2 Dogs FREE to a good home!!!!!

Normally a vet will castrate at about a year, however if the testicles are big enough they will do it b4 a year.

Tthe weight issue is more to do with change in metabolism due to reduction of released hormones, the dog does not get lazy, it just needs less food more exa-size.
I have 8 dogs and not one of them is over weight, even my greedy rotti is nice and slender, cos i reduce the food intake.

GUTTERED I WAS BACK!!! LOL LOL

This is a good point, as dogs that are entire are alot more tempting to steal+ you are less likely to get the dog back once the thief knows they have a potential breeding machine!!! Dogs are more at risk cos you can visually see they are entire as apposed to bitches.

just to add that I've had both my JRT's castrated and they are absolutely no different than they were before. I had them done mainly to stop them being stolen as they had both been 'eyed' up on occasion however would I would have had them done anyway..neither have put on weight because of it and Spotty still shags everything that moves..or doesn't for that matter!!!

[/ QUOTE ]LOL thanks!

No, hormones are more to do with behaviour. A bit like PMT will alter a woman's behaviour, but not her basic personality. Do be aware that once a pet is bred from they can become quite antisocial in their habits, and intenstly focussed on their new career.

Aha!!!

Was going to use this example myself! I get horrendous PMT and fly into rages/throw things/get very upset over nothing and I hate it! Being on the pill or in my case the implant (seeing as I'm too young for a hysterectomy though I'd have one tomorrow) doesn't change my overall personality but stops the PMT and makes a better life for me and those in the immediate fall out area!!!

Our old dog, we had a black lab, once trashed a bean bag and mother came in to find a white kitchen floor - covered in white polystyrene balls - that was worth seeing!

We had him neutured because of the hormone related cancers, he had several small tumours, and it didn't alter his basic personality at all.

Oh and though I may laugh at the destruction, Smudge is a destructive b*gger, if you leave her she shreds anything paper based she can get hold of, newspapers, loo roll, even books...

I think she's starting to grow out of it, but we try not to leave her any temptation. Mind you about a week ago my Mum forgot to shut the batchroom door upstairs, and Izzy can open the door into the hall. She came home to find the dogs curled up in a "nest" of loo roll at the top of the stairs!!!
