My two year old is having the dentist for the first time on Monday!! he has had his teeth checked by vet (but no work/gag ect) but this is his first official dentist check!! at this age is he going to get the works or just a feel around??

K that does help as I thought I'd left "the initial" visit a bit late but now feels better :) has had vet checks! EKW will he have the gag in?? hopefully will see his mum being done (who is a dream) and realise we arnt about to butcher him lol

My two and a half year old had the dentist a couple of weeks ago for the first time. He had a feel round and apart from a couple of wolf teeth which may need removing when she is older, he didn't do anything as he said that there was nothing to do yet and he didn't charge me either!

The no charge sounds bliss!! sounds like what my vet has been doing, again for no charge!! hoping he'll be a good boy,he rather likes his mouth being messed with!

Mine had his wolf teeth out at 2. Not that they were casusing problems but it seemed better to do it before any problems developed. He was sedated by vet & there were no problems.

Mine had a gag in at 2 years and dentist just took the little rough edges off, he only worked on him for about 5-10 mins so it was a positive experience

Titchy had a check and feel around (free!) aged 1 1/2, then at 2 she had her first 'dental' which included taking out wolf teeth. Vet gave her half the dose of sedation recommended and it was just as well as she was almost out for the count bless her.

Ours had a little bit of light rasping at 2, one was dropping his food, the vet found some sharp edges so a little bit of rasping later and all was well. Ours were lightly sedated (half the usual dose) just to try and make it a better experience for them, must have worked as they are all excellent with their teeth being done now. :)
