...I got my horse.
He'd officially been mine since October 2010, but due to transport issues he didn't arrive until 5/11/12.
He arrived, slightly skinny, covered in rain scald and with no muscle what so ever. He went in his stable and munched hay like he'd been there all his life...and then the fireworks started and he went crazy. It obviously was not a good mixture, him being in a totally new place and the loud bangs!
I was 15, and he was 3. It was stupid, and I was stupid to consider him. He was exactly what I wanted, but not what I needed. He was/is my first horse. And whilst viewing him I fell head over heals for him, so much so that all my common sense went out of the window.
I won't bore you with all the details, but we've been through so much throughout the last two years. He wasn't backed properly and had fundamental holes in his training, so we started from the beginning. He learnt to walk next to me, not miles behind, or tank off in front. He learnt to pick his feet out without leaping 4 ft in the air.
He wasn't ready to be ridden, not mentally or physically, and after one too many falls I decided to scrap the riding for the time being. I spent 18 months just being with him, and I wouldn't of had it any other way.
I finally sat on him again about 3 months ago, and off he went to a schooling yard - only to come home 3 weeks later after he bucked off the rider 3 times within 10 minutes. He came home, and has not bucked once with me on him - and I know this is not down to my riding.
Today, we've been for an amazing hack, and although people judge us, say he's dangerous and I'm stupid - I don't care. He is mine, and yes, we might have problems, but we'll get through them, just like we always have.
Don't get me wrong, it's not always been easy. At my old yard I fell out with some people which resulted in them giving him unsoaked sugarbeet. He nearly died, and it was horrific, but he pulled through, and we moved yards quickly.
So many people have laughed at us, bitched about us, and just all in all been very nasty, but we've proved them wrong so far, and we'll continue to do so.
I suppose the point of this post is to celebrate to years with my beautiful horse, and also to say - I've made mistakes, and I'm sure I'll make many more - but buying my horse was not one of them.
I had an account on here at the time I bought him, and I set up a post asking for opinions... I can't remember my past username, but I remember recieving some honest opinions about him and I was quite rude in reply, so I'm apoligising. Now I realise I can admit he has horrible conformation - it doesn't matter if he looks like a giraffe - all that matter is I love him.
So B, thank you for the past two years...and I can't wait for many more... xx
