24/7 summer turnout

those of you that have turned your horses out for the summer, what do you do if it rains? do you leave them out and be cruel like me? or do you bring them back in or rug them?

thanks i'm not cruel then. my boy is the only one out tonight at the yard, the rest have all brought them in. he is fat as a pudding so he could do with losing some to keep warm.

Well quite. What would people do if god forbid it rained whilst they were riding them?

Mine stays out as he can go into his mobile field stable if he wants. But he never does, he always stands out in it eating.

I bring mine in and put his full neck HW on

Only kidding, I leave him out. If I know its going to be really heavy I occasionally put his rainsheet on, but he has not had it on so far this summer. He actually seems to like the rain, if it starts to rain it takes me a while to catch him, when its dry he comes straight in!

Ditto this - I had my horse out naked in the winter or if I was feeling generous he got a lightweight or rainsheet on!!

Leave out naked!!

Unless it is especially heavy and windy and is going to rain for more than 24 hours. Then he gets a lightweight rug on and he's TB ex-racehorse.

Other horse gets left naked cos she's Welsh so should be able to handle it. Natives don't really need rugs but will probably put one on her in winter.

Mine stay out, but they have access to their stables 24/7 with full straw beds, they actually use them all the time for sleeping in and rush in at the slightest drop of rain lol!

Its just started torrential rain here in the south west so am pleased I put rugs on my boys! I wouldn't normally but it is stupidly cold for July.

out and totally naked, all 4 of them from the welshy yearling to the 17hh TBx

bit of rain will do them good, i'm sure shellee will have her timotei out as soon as the first drops fall

Have been leaving mine out because although it has been wet it is still warm and they dry quickly anyway! Have put their lightweight turnout rugs on though when it has rained heavily!

My mare lives out all year round although she is rugged in the winter........so she stays out without a rug on in the summer and it rains, she does have access to a field shelter but only uses it in the very very worst of weather - her choice not mine!

Both of mine are naked. One is a TB, the other an IDxWB. They are both fine. Although I will put a rug on my TB if the rain is heavy and persistent. My yard owners horses are rugged up in light weight combos every night and brought in if it is raining!

She's out naked unless its really heavy rain that going to set in for the day and its windy, then she'll just have a summer sheet on. My girl hasn't had a rug on for about 3 weeks now, she loves it
