So just had the journey from hell when my little boy pony managed to rear up and get both legs and shoulders through the anti weave grills in my racemaster horsebox. By some miracle we manged to get him back over before the fire brigade turned up and got him home ok on a Bloomfields professional which has full heigh partitions at front and side of him. Now he has done it once there is no way I'll put him on the box again dispute never having any problems with my other 4 horses travelling in it I am just not willing to risk it.

The Bloomfields professional was perfect but is also 40k, does anyone know of any slightly cheaper makes that also have full height partitions to front of him and possibly side he can be cross tied in future?

If the box is yours, go for a retro fit 'anti-climb board', which fixes onto the breast bar and bolts up by the roof. They work well. Racemaster do them, as do others.
I always cross tie in mine too - the 2nd rope comes under the partition from the loading side for smaller ones.
Or, take your box to another company (if you love your box enough) and get a replacement full height partition, and get the fixed breast bar (am thinking thats what you have?) removed, and a replacement full wall - or a permanent upper boarding put in.
Peperharrow boxes do this as do others, so worth looking round if the box is sound and to your liking otherwise :)

I'm one of those who cannot abide weave grills in boxes tho, either close it in completely, or have a breast bar (sorry x)

Box has been marvellous other wise, it's MOT is due next week so will see how it fairs, didn't realise jump barriers could be fitted after!

When I got the box I wanted full height partitons or extra wide back door but was convinced by seller that anti weave bars would do the job........they actually made it worse and he was wedged, had it been open it would have been a lot easier to get him back!

I've found they make anxious travellers worse (weave grills) as they just cannot balance properly & then get in a tizzy to get out!
The retro fit climb board fixes to the breast bar/board at each side, slopes away at about 45 degrees for up to 10 inches or so to back of windows and then goes vertically up to the roof, usually stopping 2-4 inches from top, thus cutting off the rear section of the box, apart from air.
Worth giving RM a call to see how long it would take to get one made x When I enquired, they were then around £100 - 150.

I second this, I had it done to my old racemaster box. Wouldn't have travelled without it - mine is a very old box but they managed it, i believe it's neater on newer ones as the windows are in a slightly different place. I had an additional window put into the horse area at the same time, they were dead easy to deal with. They had various options to choose from, this is what I went for.
Sorry to hear you had such a horrible experience :(

Thanks all. Thinking about it in light of day I just can't unsee the sight of my precious baby hanging over the partiton and I don't think even with a jump bar that I'd feel confident putting any horses in it again. So sadly I think I'll be selling it rather than adding bits to it and saving up for one that I can safely cross tie in as well as the full partitons. Gutted as I love that lorry but I love my ponies more :(

There is a red BOSS for sale on HORSEBOXES for sale. Site. I had a boss for 7 years fab lorry..full height dividing wall no way they can go over... Full collapable BB and two tie rings for each stall and adjustable and removable partition... The company are in north wales, new they are £28k and up but I sold my 57 plate Renault one for £22500 with 55 thousand miles on clock... The red one for sales looks nice..they don't come for sale very often

E-mail Bloomfields with some pics of yours and ask them how much to adapt yours. Any good local fabrication company should be able to do it if you can get some good pics of a Bloomfield for them to copy

Speak to Regent. They are very experienced and will accomodate any requirements such as this. And their boxes are VERY reasonable cost wise! Good luck

Get a mechanic to look if you go there! Ours was an utter nightmare and literally caved in when taken away on a flatbed lorry!

Meant for the Peper Harrow boxes

Most reputable companies and independents will retrofit. There is a small company near me that do general horsebox work rather than make their own and they will happily do them.
