I have never been a fan of 3.5t boxes... I've always said I would never ever ever buy one of the little van ones (just my personal opinion)... Last summer I shelled out for a 4x4 and an ifor williams 505. I love my trailer... but my car, has been one expense after another. The insurance on the car is next to ridiculous (I'm only 24!) and the general day to day running of the car as well as it's monthly repair bills is sickening.

In September I'm going back to university so I'm considering selling the car and trailer, buying a little run around car, and investing in a nice little 3.5t box. My horse travels well, he's only 15h and he only ever travels alone so weight and size ect isn't a problem for us.

I just wondered what everyone's experiences are with them? did anyone make the switch from a car and trailer? Was it worth it? Did you save money on the day to day running of your cars? and most importantly!! are your boxes reliable?

Not sure why you don't like them? Mine has changed my life :o i love them!

It's old but reliable *touches wood frantically*
Horses travel well in it and I like having a place to store stuff and get changed etc.. I hate going out in a trailer by comparison

I do a lot of miles in my car so I'd spend a lot more if I had to drive a tow car all the time.

I've got a 3.5t van conversion for my 13.1hh fell pony. I think you would fit a 15hh in it no bother. I have a company car so a little van is perfect for me, it has storage, plenty of room for the horse, I've driven it all over the country, slept in a camp bed in the back of it and it's perfect. I have plenty of ventilation including 3 Windows, 2 roof vents and an electric fan in the roof plus I have a camera in the back so I can keep an eye on him. It drives lovely and trucks down the motorway at 65-70mph no problem. :)

Make sure that you purchase one that has been built by a reputable builder on a good chassis and get it checked out before buying. The best chassis is a Renaultmaster Chassis Pan Cab with the container built on it. Best companies are Bloomfields, Boss, Marlborough and Oakley.

Switched from car and trailer to 3.5t lorry in March.
Love the lorry, easier to drive, easier to plan trip can load everything (except pony of course) up the day before and be ready to go and not hitching trailer up in the morning.
Can't think of any downside other than weight capacity but if that is not an issue no contest. Lorry wins.
